Re: Ins and Outs
He has made a significant impact on all our teams and the Club is in an amazing position moving forward off the back of what he was able to implement with his experiences working in elite sporting teams.
I'm all in favour of saying nice things about people leaving, but IMO this is a bit over the top after only 11 months, wooden spoon and way above normal hamstring injuries.
I can't see that we're in an 'amazing position moving forward'.
I also can't see many 'green shoots'.
I know criticism isn't well regarded, but can't we just be realistic about where we are?

We had a terrible 2021 season with many problems but I don't believe our fitness was one of them.

Call me cynical, but "The Club is in an amazing position moving forward" sounds trite, disrespectful to supporters and is absolute Bulls**t. Fair Dinkum.

I agree, B&R, but that's why it's disappointing that we have to start again with someone new.

It depends on your definition of amazing. If it's causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing. Then I agree.
I'm surprised we're in the position we are. I wonder how we're going to get out of it and I'll be astonished if we do.

It wasn't for those who didn't pull hamstrings, but 20+ hammies could be construed as a bit of a fitness problem.

Re: Ins and Outs
Can anyone clear up a query I have, please?
The Club announced the retirements of Kaine Stevens and Nathan Batley and said Josh Schiller wouldn't be at Westies next year. Hope I got that right.
At the B & F , the Club recognised Kaine and Nathan, but not Josh, who is a premiership player.
Is Josh continuing, hopefully, or what's happening?

Re: Ins and Outs
Lee, Josh didn't want to make a big deal about announcing his retirement at the B&F, it wasn't mentioned. He's just that sort of person.
So in answering your question, no he will not continue playing for West.
He's given his all for the club as a player, and a premiership player as well.

Thanks Dits, I agree, he's been a great player and person for us. I've admired the way he fought his way into the team, reinvented himself as an inside mid and got the very best out of himself.
I wish him all the best for the future.

I hope Hugh is staying, but he did plan to leave in 2020 and then the VFL got shut down and his plans changed. Maybe that's happening again?

Given what is happening, surely questions need to be asked about the coaching group?

Re: Ins and Outs
So my read is that all clubs are losing players to the comp, West are doing that but also losing better players to teams that are playing finals. No surprise there, many supporters won’t go to watch it’s been so poor for so long, can’t blame some players for leaving to play in competitive teams.

Re: Ins and Outs
The draft is still some time away, so recruiting doesn't finish until well after that.
It's a truism of recruiting that if you lose a player, it's best they go interstate or to the country, as long as they're not playing against you, which is a double whammy. Duval to the Eagles and Dunkin to South hurts.
However, we'll have plenty of cap space with all the departures, so we should be able to recruit some good players, as long as our recent record doesn't turn recruits off.
Not great publicity, but we have to move on.
