Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Spot on Lachlan.
Right now our squad is weaker.
We lost 2 really good young players in Mattingly who was second in the best and fairest and Mulady who showed promise.
Beech, Steele, Chamberlain and a couple of others have also departed.
There has to be question marks on Brand who didn’t play at all this year.
Searle from Glenelg is a good get but we need more.
We aren’t climbing much up the ladder with the squad we currently have.
Meanwhile, the rest of the competition ( apart from South) continue to bolster their squads…..
Port Districts in the Amateur League have recruited a better group of players than we have…….

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Henley Football Club
We are please to welcome former Henley Junior Nic Couroupis back to the Sharks for the 2024 season.
Nic has spent the past 6 seasons at the West Adelaide Football Club, making his league debut in Round 1
of the 2022 season. Nic also trialled with Richmond in the preseason of 2021 only just missing out on the final list spot.
Nic is an elite ball user who can play in the midfield or across half back with the ability to break lines with
His running and kicking ability.”

We must be clearing the decks for the 10 super signings incoming, surely?
Seems like we have made about 3 signings and lost about 15 so far

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
We obviously need to recruit some more quality players but to my mind we've only really lost 2 quality league players from last year in Mattingly and Beech.

Aldo,
Your post is spot on.
We simply must sign some quality players if we are going to climb up the ladder.

You’re right, we haven’t lost a lot a league quality but we still finished bottom last year with this current squad.aldo russian wrote:We obviously need to recruit some more quality players but to my mind we've only really lost 2 quality league players from last year in Mattingly and Beech.

So 2 recruits so far………
Is that it?
What is going on at West Adelaide?

Make that 3. We’ve signed Patrick Wilson from Sturt.
Not sure why we can’t announce it today considering Sturt have already informed their members.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Wilson definitely has a long term knee injury and won’t play until the latter part of 2024

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Our team on paper for next year is worse than this year and we finished bottom.
I’m speaking the truth and I’m not being pessimistic.
ONCE AGAIN OUR RECRUITING HAS BEEN VERY POOR.
SAME S—T DIFFERENT YEAR.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
LOL
So we’ve recruited an almost 30 year old who won’t even play much footy next year….
It’s not good enough.
This has a Justin Hardy / Andrew Hayes smell to it.
Wilson can play but will he get on the park??

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Hopefully another 4-5 recruits to come at least.
Is Brand realistically going to play in 2024 as would be like a new recruit if so. If we got Snelling and Wilson it would have been a big improvement, just Wilson won’t improve us that much on his own IMO.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
with limited funds the club has to recruit FULLY FIT players, I bloody well hope it only cost a hug and a kiss from his mum for Wilson to come to West.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
It’s been suggested Wilson suffered a partial ACL strain in a reserves final last year.
If that is correct, he will miss plenty of footy in 2024.

the Sturt members I spoke to said it was an ACL.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Why then would the club make such a big song and dance on the Facebook Page about this signing?
If he misses half the season or more, it’s a bit underwhelming in my opinion…..
As I’ve said, he is a very good player but not when you’re in the grandstand…

‘Wolfpack’
I think the reason why the club is making a song and dance about Wilson is
1. Our Recruiting so far has been nothing short of woeful.
2. We don’t have any quality players in the pipeline.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
So, it would appear our off season recruiting is done.
3 recruits, 2 of which have knee injuries.
Meanwhile:
Central 8 recruits
North 9 recruits
Norwood 7 recruits
Eagles 6 recruits
Think I will save my $200 this year on membership and find something else to do on the weekends…..

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Yeah we have to do better than this. When you finish bottom for the 5th year in a row and your Reserves and U18s finish nowhere, if you don't recruit well you're asking for more of the same. The SANFL isn't helping.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
Agree with the above, expected a lot more and better than this.
Have not even covered the outs yet alone improve the team.
I guess Pat Wilson said “pushing for finals by 2025,” really not much else to say as expectations for 24 are clearly more of the same.

Re: Ins and Outs 2024
This year’s Recruiting has been the worst I’ve seen in the 63 years I’ve supported the club.
Sturt and Glenelg recruited quality and not quantity and South are going to use their home grown talent.
I cannot see where we will improve next year, given our list is weaker and our Ressies finished 2nd last and the U18’s last.
Surely the Football Director and the board need to ask a few very serious questions.
We had enough in our cap to Recruit 3 very good players.
We missed out on Snelling and Bonner and from the outside looking in we didn’t have a plan B which is unforgivable.
