Re: Trial Games
It might have only been trial games but to win both at Norwood made for a good (but cold) night at the Parade. The Reserves came from behind to win 10.16 to 9.10 and the seniors 11.5 to 8.6 despite not scoring a goal in the last Q.
In a game when 6 players interchange every few minutes it’s hard to take the result seriously but there were some good signs for the young Bloods. The game plan seems to be to move the ball quickly while putting maximum pressure on your opponents. They did this well, forcing Norwood into their default plan of chipping the ball sideways and wasting valuable time. We seem to have a lot more pace than last year and this seemed to be the objective of our recruiting.
With such a physical game applied to a bigger bodied team we ran out of puff towards the end. Recruits Koster, Allan and Boyle are not big players. Hamish Ellem from Sydney is a bigger presence up forward. He played the first game and the last half of the main game and looked good in both. Strong body but has good hands and knows how to give the ball off. Would have liked to have seen his mate Kyle Martin in the senior game as he looked good in the Ressies. Keough played forward and I reckon that will be his role for the season. Brett Turner and Josh Schiller both seemed to run out the game OK after missing so much footy last year. If Turner can stay on the park this could be his year.
For a coach the first serious hit out each year against real opposition is always a huge test and he should be well pleased with the effort tonight.

Gibbo is still recovering from a shoulder operation..he's running on the track at training and doing gym work. He's still a few weeks away from full on training.

Re: Trial Games
Yes it was only a trial but I'd rather win a trial than lose it because having won last year's spoon, we need hope, and good trial form gives us that, rightly or wrongly. Looks like Ellam and McKenzie might give us some fresh tall forward options.
