Re: Quiz
I decided to celebrate getting one right by asking one of my own.
Who am I?
I played over 100 games for Westies under 4 different coaches towards the end of the 20th Century.
TKKNMMMG are the initials of the coaches I played under.
Cryptic Clues:
Mini Moke - Cowboy Killers - Marina

Re: Quiz
I will throw in one just for fun.
Where did Micky Godden play his first reserves game and why was it unusual.

Re: Quiz
Goddsy played his first Reserves game at Elizabeth vs Centrals.
Why it was unusual the league where playing a double header I think and had a late withdrawal. The U/19's were at Richmond. So Goddsy was picked to play 17's and got the call up to the Reserves

Re: Quiz
bloodsaint --- Well done except for one detail.
Micky played during the week for the State and as such he was not selected in any Westies team that weekend hence the reason why he was at Elizabeth and available when player dropped out of reserves (ankle in shower) -- I was one who spotted Micky at Elizabeth Oval and pointed him out to Coach.

No, not Don Roach.
What about if I group the clues and indicate which are proper nouns?
hawthorn - holly
solitary - flatfish - Smokey Robinson
a Heartbreaker - Top Gun

Re: Quiz
There's a fish called a roach, there's a holly roach and didn't Don play for Hawthorn?
He was also the Top Gun for a club for a while.
Close, but not close enough

Another clue.
The clues are grouped. One group = first name
Two groups = 2 syllables of surname

Re: Quiz
OK, Bruce.
Tom Shrubsole?
Tom Cruise - Top Gun
Solitary & fish - sole
Holly - Shrub?
Not sure about the other clues, though, so probably wrong.

Great work, Lee. Thanks for persevering.
hawthorn is also classified as a shrub ( a great red herring)
a Heartbreaker = Tom Petty (although technically it was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but have heard them referred to as just the Heartbreakers)
Smokey Robinson = soul singer (different spelling, but I think it's allowed in cryptic clues)
The name Shrubsole has always fascinated me. I've got a football budget floating around somewhere from the 60s with his name in it, but can't find it. Hopefully, it'll turn up.
