I thought I'd start a quiz about various Westies' topics.
Rules: No Googling
All from memory, please.
Identify this player:
I was a high possession back pocket player, from interstate.
I played in the 90's for the Bloods.
Identify this player
I once beat Shaun Rehn into 3rd place in our Reserves B & F.
No googling !!
Identify this player:
I won B & F's at Westies in all both junior grades, Reserves and League.

Re: Quiz
OK, some clues.
The back pocket player came from a sunshine state.
The Reserves player played only a few senior games, but was a SANFL Magarey Medallist.
The B & F Player was a left-footer from a small town named Galga. (not Julie Anthony

Re: Quiz
Steve McLuckie is correct!
Reserves player not Backwell.
Perhaps the Magatey clue is a bit misleading.
The player had an Italian name.

Re: Quiz
Yes, the clue was a little misleading. I cheated and looked it up, but won't spoil the fun. I wouldn't have remembered in a million years. Good question, Lee.

Re: Quiz
Thanks Lee.
I always thought that Max was a fairly reasonable player who should have played more league games.
The coach & the selection panel obviously thought otherwise,

Max played very well at reserves level and coach of time (Morris) was under fair bit of pressure to play him which he did and guaranteed him 3/4? games in a row to prove to him he was a league footballer - honestly hardly touched the ball in however many games he had and he was gone.

Re: Quiz
How many senior VFL or AFL coaches (not assistants) can you name who played League footy for Westies? (I can think of 3, not including Rutten who starts next year.)

Concurrently, identify this lesser known player:
I came from Tasmania and only played a few senior games.
I shared a surname with a very famous AFL player.

Re: Quiz
Bit of topic but sad news I had not heard before.
I was wrongly thinking Ryan Ablett for Tassy player but sadly found the following RIP Ryan.
Ryan Ablett (2 May 1981 - 28 March 2009) was a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for Port Melbourne in the VFL and West Adelaide in the SANFL and was on Hawthorn's rookie list in the AFL.
The son of Geoff Ablett, who played 202 games for Hawthorn in the 1970s and 1980s, and part of the famous Ablett family, Ryan was drafted by the Hawks in the 2000 rookie draft. He was delisted at the end of 2000 without playing a senior game. After being delisted, Ablett played for Port Melbourne before spending a season with West Adelaide in the SANFL.
Ablett passed away in March 2009 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. He was 27.
