Recruiting
Riley Bonner delisted by Port.
I’m not sure he gets picked up by another AFL Club, if not he’s a must signing.

spot on Lachlan. Bonner is exactly the type of players the club needs to take the next step in moving up the league ladder. relying on club junior development will not give us a premiership winning team.
I believe we now have a premiership capable coach, lets get him the players that he needs.

Re: Recruiting
It will be extremely difficult to entice ex AFL players back to the SANFL.
There is no money to be made playing in this competition anymore.
Our problem is worse because our cap is even less than the other clubs.
The SANFL need to address this problem, otherwise the competition will turn in to an under 21s like competition.
There is too much required from players at SANFL level for no monetary reward.

Re: Recruiting
It hasn't proven too difficult for South. Off the top of my head over the last couple of years, Broadbent, Gibbs, Brooksby, Sproule, Smith, O'Neil, Brownless, Skinner...

Re: Recruiting
Talking to someone whose interest in is another code, he posed a “novel”idea. Afl players drafted from, for example SANFL, and when they are delisted, and are no longer coveted by another afl club, they should be obliged to return to their original SANFL club, or at least, their original club has first option.
Also kids needed to have played a certain number games at senior level before being drafted.
Now that would take BALLS from the SANFL and we all know they are wanting in the department - particularly when it comes the the Victorians.
Just putting it out there

Yes, South have done ok but I think you will find that Sproule has quit after only 1 year, Smith, O’Neill and Brownless have also gone after only short stints.
Interestingly, Norwood’s Captain, Matt Nunn has retired at 26 years of age.
I just think it’s a problem in the competition that is going to get worse.

Re: Recruiting
I agree, Wolfpack, that the salary cap needs to be increased, but only if the clubs are capable of paying it comfortably.

Re: Recruiting
This is effectively the case now. If Bonner, for example, wanted to play with Glenelg, they would have to pay us a clearance fee.Coolie wrote:Talking to someone whose interest in is another code, he posed a “novel”idea.
