Post by Lachlan on Fri Nov 13, 2020 2:52 pm

So Far our Recruiting Committee has done very well signing
Beech, Lovell and Maguire.

What we REALLY NEED NOW is a QUALITY KPP who can impact a game especially
on the scoreboard.

Its also crucial we recruit a few young players that we can develop similar to
Ellam and Squire. We lack depth and young talent so it’s important we
continue to build our list for the future

Yes, we're at least one good KPP short, and if we lose Duvall and/or Sinderberry that's more height from defence gone. Maybe the coach can weave his magic with guys like McKenzie, Elliot and Rana.

Rana,McKenzie and Elliot all have potential that’s for sure. I think all 3 need to get in the gym and have a full preseason.

I hope the coach can also have an impact on Noah Hannigan.

All 4 players are the future talls we need we just have to develop them.

Very happy with what the club has done so far given the lack of salary cap for 2021.
A key forward would be nice as we are a bit light on up forward. Beechy back will help but we need another marking target.
Looking forward to 2021 already😀😀

Speaking of big bodies - last heard Mason Middleton had gone back to Barmera-Monash - if so is he back there for good or still a chance to come back to Westies? And have we any mail on delisted Sam Durdin?

Hard to get Mason to train & commit to the demands of SANFL & Sam Durdin is hopeful of being redrafted at this stage.

Being hopeful of being redrafted doesn't stop him from committing to a SANFL club though. Also, I think he's being extremely optimistic.
There have been whispers of him talking to other SANFL clubs. Wouldn't he be a $25,000 transfer fee? If so, then by the time you've paid him he becomes probably a 40K-45K player, and I'm not sure his CV warrants that.

Aldo

I agree with you about Durdin, he could still sign us and if he gets redrafted so be it.
Mind you I think he has no chance, he doesn’t find enough of the footy and he lacks
a physical presence.

We will get $25k for Durdin. I don’t think Durdin will measure up in the SANFL anyway. I thought his performances at AFL level were very very ordinary.

We do, however need to sign a VERY GOOD KEY POSITION PLAYER, plus another marking forward.
Our forward line needs an overhaul as we don’t have enough goal kickers.
We can’t rely on Beech he is 30 next year . Ellam will be good but he needs another couple of marking forwards to support him.

More than disappointing Lee. I am really pissed off with Sam. All the investment into him from a young age, an U18 premiership plus we have been over to Melbourne when he was still with North Melbourne, to give him & all the drafted West boys merchandise & take them to lunch to keep them connected so that when their AFL careers came to an end they would hopefully remain Westies players. Shows how much the club means to him.

Ah well on the upside we now know fairly early rather than waiting for the draft (which he was telling us he wanted to try to get re-drafted - what BS). The money the club had set aside for him can now go towards other targets.

Cheers Sam!!!!!

We have always struggled to get our AFL players back to the club for whatever reason which is really disappointing.
However, our recruiting so far has been good.
Let’s hope we can land a couple more.

Durdin signing with the Bays means we're about $45K better off - the $25K I think we get for the transfer and the $20K or so we would have had to pay him. Given his career so far it would be very surprising to see him have a big impact at SANFL level.
However, I am amazed at the quality and quantity of some of the recruiting being done at the moment. It's pretty hard to catch up to teams higher up the ladder (as they all are) when they're recruiting multiple ex-AFL players.

I have been asking for points system including a limit on how many of each level player you could play in league & reserves but was advised several times by an SANFL Director that it would not work.

Sam D picture in the rooms will get the same treatment that the prick that went to Norwood in similar circumstances got --- thrown had in bin with several expletives in front of coach --- first time i seen Andrew Collins speechless but i think he liked my attitude

Good communication

The club would like to give all members and supporters a list update of where the club is currently at for 2021 season.

The club continues to work on building the best list possible and have coverage in all areas of the ground.

The first key part of your list is always the players you already have, to get commitments from your existing players is always a great sign of the direction you are going. This has been evident from the responses to the playing group when asked about 2021. We have already 37 players including Kaine Stevens, Tom Keough and Logan Hill re committed which should show members and supporters that the players do believe we are heading in the right direction and with a quality, experienced coach coming in to the program for the next two years the light at the end of the tunnel is clearly not far away.

Our depth will no doubt be a strong point for 2021 with the further development of our existing young list form 2020 and the emergence of the Under 18’s coming up to the senior squad for next year. On top of this we have already seen the arrivals of 5 key signing already for 2021 that will no doubt bring experience from high level football and strengthen our league side. We are still finalising a couple more exciting recruits that hopefully we can announce over the coming weeks to further add depth to our League side for 2021. You also add some talented local footballers to our training squad for 2021 and we have been able to get a few quality footballers that have been able to dominate in their teams and leagues this year as we look to unearth another Mitch Duval. One special mention which the club is delighted to have come to the club is a father son in Issac McCormick. Issac’s dad Simon McCormick played for the club and won the 2007 Best & Fairest. We welcome Issac and his family to Westies.

Disappointingly for our loyal Westies supporters, past player Sam Durdin has decided to pursue his football elsewhere in 2021. The Club did everything possible to bring Sam back to West Adelaide, but he has made the decision to pursue other opportunities.

With list’s every year, people come and go and that is the nature of the sport, We would like to pay tribute to a few that will not be with us in 2021 and thank them for their commitment and service to the football club, they have been able to help set the foundation of the next two exciting years for us and they should know they have played a part in that. These players are mentioned below on the Departures List.

Departures:

We will be saying goodbye to Jack Agostino who has decided to go back to Renmark to give back to the club that gave him his opportunity as a young boy. This will be a great endorsement for the club and the Riverland competition in 2021. Jack played in our under 18s winning grand final as well 52 league games. Even though he only played one game this year due to injury he was part of the leadership group and still had a positive impact on the players and the club. We wish Ago all the best in the future.

Will Mead has decided to go back and play local football. He achieved what he wanted to achieve from SANFL by playing League Football and wants to go back and play with his friends at his local club.

Gibson Turner won’t be returning to the club in 2021. We thank him for his contribution and wish him the best of luck in the future.

Dallas Willsmore has made the hard decision not to play SANFL football next year and head back to the family farm to assist there in 2021. It was a tough decision for him but family always comes first and we respect his decision and wish him all the best.

New Signings:

Beech (Ex West Adelaide), Lovell (Ex Hawthorn/Kingborough Tigers), Maguire (Canberra), Redfern (Coolamon Rovers), J.Johnson (Coburg) & C.Allan (Sturt)

Under 18’s coming up to senior football:

Chamberlain (1 League game in 2020), Sinderberry (1 League game in 2020), Couroupis (played Reserves football in 2020), Sherlock (played Reserves football in 2020), Gilbert (played Reserves football in 2020), Kelly (played Reserves football in 2020), Laudato (played Reserves football in 2020), Bock, Van Den Berg, Boughen, Faulkner, Heitmann, Venning & De Cesare

Some local players listed below have been invited to train with the club over the pre-season

Train on players:

Ben Adams, Adam Carroll, Oliver Chesseman, Nick Cottrell, Hamish Gordon, Nick Jones, Issac McCormick, Levi Proude, Cameron Rankine, Luke Wilson & Jordon Wilson-King

Great to have an informative football update. Reassuring to members that the football department are leaving no stone unturned in its effort to build a more competitive team.

Disappointing to read about Durdin looking elsewhere despite the club's best efforts, but at least it's been put to rest AND if his heart wasn't in it, perhaps for the best.

A shame to see Willsmore and Agostino go. Best of luck to both of them.

Pleasing to read the club is keeping us updated with what’s going on in the football dept.
It’s critical now we recruit ¬†another couple of very good players given who other clubs have managed to sign.
