Re: West v Norwood
Our coach has 22 wins and 39 losses in his tenure to date.
14 of those came in 2015.
Doesn't look real good.
But he delivered a flag which we are all grateful for!!!

Excellent comeback against South.
Excellent, skillful running game (bar 2nd quarter) against a superb Eagles.
Then absolute shite. A shameful display.

Re: West v Norwood
I'm not sure who to feel sorrier for, the supporters or the players. In most instances the players are trying very hard. But also in most instances our players are poor or unreliable kicks. We frequently missed stationary targets 30 metres away while Norwood sliced us up hitting moving targets 50 metres away. Middleton, our only key forward, has failed to make the distance from 30 metres out twice in the last two weeks.
Of more concern is that we look unstructured. Particularly when the opposition has the ball, we look disorganised, our players seeming to be uncertain of where to be.
This is not where we should be 21 games after a premiership. (Having only won 2 of those 21.) Some first-choice players need a spell in the Reserves, but I think we also need to take a realistic look at where our playing list is and decide on what the best course of action is for the rest of this season.

I think Bates and Keough are League standard recruits.

Re: West v Norwood
Our recruiting was fine.
I blame the coaching group for our situation.
We have no skill.
We cannot kick, handball and tackle to a level that is good enough to compete against any side.
Players don't run to the correct spots and cannot defend the ground.

Re: West v Norwood
I think our recruiting was ok.Wilson, Keough and Bates are all good league players.
To Sign a quality Ruckman and a key forward was always going to be difficult,
However we have been DEFICENT in both the Ruck and a key position forward for far too long.
We won the Premieship thanks mostly to Fielke and a Green who were outstanding small forwards, however that was never going to happen again. Fielke has also played very well through the midfield this year especially against South and Norwood.
Overall our Recruiting has failed to sign a quality Ruckman or a key forward for FAR TOO LONG.
Our Structure as previously stated by me in other posts isn't right. We need two play to key forwards for the whole game and two ruckmen either resting in the pocket or off the bench.
With Wilson limping off with a knee injury and Klemke also not playing last night due to injury our lack of depth with KEY POSITION PLAYERS will be tested even further. You can add Josh Ryan as well.
Mickans style is to play an attacking brand of football however our skills by hand and foot are not up to the level required for this type of game style at the present time. When the opposition have the ball we don't seem to be able to defend well enough and that starts in the midfield.

Re: West v Norwood
What seems to be obscured by a 10 goal loss last week against the Eagles at Woodville Oval was how well West played. The missed opportunity against South the pervious week showed how West could win games this season. Excellent, good, and solid performances by many players in the trial matches indicated depth at the Club. In light of these attainments, the performance against Norwood was a disaster. What appeared to be a recovery in competitiveness this year now looks like a pipe dream.
The coaching staff did not instruct players to hand ball to teammate's feet and kick directly to the opposition. The absence of preferred team members due to injury does not induce poor skills from the subsequent lineup that has already shown competency.
I'm confident the Club understands that last Friday night's performance was not due to coaching or the injury list, and that such (adjectives previously used) proficiency to be made an isolated case is imperative.

Re: West v Norwood
I have to disagree with you, Luke09.
You say this group has shown competency......
I would say that we have been absolute rubbish since the GF in 2015.
2 wins and 19 losses would suggest this.....

Re: West v Norwood
Fair go WP.
I agree with your commentary on last year but all indicators for this year have been good until the train is being derailed again. Recruiting was pretty good apart from landing a ruckman which is extremely difficult.
Porps & Schmidty looked on track with Kaine Stevens to be a formidable midfield. Then Trial form was reasonable before the injury curse has struck again.
How can we ever predict that?? If you try to talk about recruiting more depth we simply can't afford it & are already operating on a reduced salary cap compared with the rest of the comp (except South) due to SANFL imposition.
Our young team has been very aggressive & one can't question their endeavour but they haven't been able to sustain it for long enough periods. Last season we were losing by 100+ points each game so we have made progress.
Our loss to South really hurt because we were always going to be up against the odds with both the Eagles & Norwood. Now Webby & Jake Wilson join the list of injured. Bloody frustrating.
I guess the reigning premiers will b hoping not to start zip 3 but I think they will.
Although this forum gives everyone the opportunity to voice their opinion please get a handle on the circumstances. Do you honestly think the football dept, the coaches & the Board are not trying to put a competitive winning team on the field. They r all frustrated & busting their collective guts.

Re: West v Norwood
It would be nice to move on but its looking like another fruitless season and its understandable supporters are restless as bar the premiership season, we have been woeful under Mickan.
If we lose this week, its 0-4 and while its great to trot out lines like "keep supporting" or "stay positive", the garden is going to start looking like a more appealing way to spend an afternoon pretty quickly.
