WEST
West Adelaide ruckman Ryan Willits could miss the rest of the season after undergoing hip surgery ahead of Saturday’s clash with Glenelg at City Mazda Stadium.
Despite managing soreness in his hip for much of the season, the former Power bigman has opted to go under the knife which will sideline him for at least 6-8 weeks.
‘’It will be touch and go as to whether Ryan will play again this season,’’ Bloods football manager Andrew Marks said.
Willits is the only certain exclusion from the Bloods’ 23-man squad with star midfielder Travis Tuck returning from a minor knee complaint suffered at training last week.
Possible debutants Josh Ryan (key defender from Mildura) and Jack Evans (midfielder from Flagstaff Hill) have been named on the extended interchange bench but must survive the cut before the bounce.

Re: West vs Glenelg at City Mazda
It took us until round 13 to win our first game at home in a contest eerily similar to last week at Prospect. But today we fell in by 2 points winning 9.9 to 8.13 with the final siren going at the 23.44 mark.
At one point we led by 31pts but Glenelg fought back to make it a 1pt game late in the last Q.
It was a much more even team effort that got us over the line. Still a lot of mistakes and costly turnovers but a more even spread of contributors and a few standout efforts.
In the last Q it was the experience of Schmidt, Caire, Hartlett and Tuck that counted. We are getting more from Schiller, Hill and Silverlock and younger players like Middleton, Favretto, Waite and Agostino are finding more of the ball.
Our first half was terrific and at half time we were up 8.5 to 3.5. In the third we dropped our intensity, the Bays lifted and we only managed a single goal when Tuck stole the ball late in the Q to snap truly. The Bays added 3.5 and it was only their poor kicking and the key move to put Middleton back that kept us in the game. We were being out tackled and out marked and our poor skills were letting us down again.
In the first half we went inside 50 27 times to their 13 but in the last half it was reversed – 15/26.
In the last we didn’t kick a goal and the Bays got 2.3, missing several easy set shots. But we did control the ball for large parts of this Q without troubling the scorer. We had a few chances through Karpany and Haysman but their inexperience cost us dearly as we looked for that one last crucial goal.
Sellar and Rioli didn’t play for the Bays and Evans dropped out for us (again!)
Middleton with 9 marks was terrific. Fielke booted 3.4 from 9 kicks and would be a little disappointed with his accuracy from set shots. We are a better team with Tuck in the side. Schmidt was my best, cool head in a crisis but a good overall team effort, however, we’ll need to be much better to trouble the Eagles next week.
Stubbs injured his hand and spent some time on the bench.
The 2’s were well beaten 20.12 to 5.4.

Re: West vs Glenelg at City Mazda
Hills gut run to the outer wing to receive the ball in the 3rd qtr was the highlight for me.
Middleton made great position on a few occasions and either didn't take what he should of or missed the shot....great potential.
Tuck looks slow but geez I love it when he gets the ball. His 2 passes inside 50 were superb.
What was the crowd #?

Re: West vs Glenelg at City Mazda
It was a gusty win yesterday, I thought we should have been further in
front at half time.
Middleton has been very good the past two weeks, he will even be
better with another quality key forward and a good Pre season.
Tuck was fantastic yesterday as was Hartlett, we play so much better
when these two guys are playing.
The past couple of years Adam Hartlett has grown into to be a
great leader and his discipline has improved dramatically.
He is the best Key Defender in the SANFL.
I hope he goes on next year as he is so important to us.
Justin Hardy has also played well this year, he came of late in the game
with what looked like a groin injury.

Re: West vs Glenelg at City Mazda
We were lucky to get away with the win.
1 goal in a half is poor.
Our first half was very good.
The injury curse has hit us hard this year!!
I thought Webby was brilliant in the ruck considering he was crook all week.....
Tough game against the Eagles this week at Woodville..

Re: West vs Glenelg at City Mazda
In the last half of our last 3 games we have kicked a total of 9.14. Our opposition in these last 3 games have kicked a total of 24.13 in the last half.
Now we have won 2 of these games but our last half fade out is a major concern. Either there is something in the half time cordial or we have a serious fitness problem.

Crowd of 1500 according to the paper, but I don't believe it. I reckon about 1000.
But I do agree with the paper that we did our best to lose it.
