About training
Christmas greetings to all and good health as well.went to training on wednesday .it was very cold and windy.was a bit disappointed that there was only about 36 on track.hope that does not mean we have a too many players on rehab. but do like some of the new players that were training .

Re: About training
Disappointing to read that so many players are again in Rehab, which is similar to last year.
Our season finished very earlier this year and I would have thought most of the playing group
would have been at Pre-Season from the first day.
The coach needs to ensure this situation is rectified immediately and most of the players are
on the track after the Christmas Break.
Having a strong Pre-Season is critical to our success in 2017,it certainly was in our Premiership year.

Re: About training
They are not there bludging Lachlan. They have specialised programs & are monitored & supervised. They are all making solid progress.
We had many players needing crucial operations. They were attended to as early as possible, in fact as soon as our season ended.
SCHMIDT, Porps, Helbig, Keough, Webby, Logan to name just a few had major surgery.
We all know that a solid pre-season is important. Not all of these players will b ready immediately after the Xmas break. They will return progressively.
One thing in our favour is the late start to the 2017 season which gives us an extra couple of weeks to normal.
On a real positive all the new recruits are training really well & look accomplished & classy plus big Pete, Mason, Greeny & Taite are going really well.

Mypaspective.
Thanks for the update. I'm not for 1 minute suggesting that the players in the Rehab group were bludging, however in our Premiership year we had a very good preseason. If we are to improve significantly in 2017 it's important that all players have a strong fitness base.

Agree Lachlin but we've got what we've got & have to deal with it in the best way possible. Can't change the facts we're faced with unfortunately.
To answer Broblach.
1: Not yet
2: Not playing. The reasons were explained to the whole playing group by the CEO and the Coach a couple of weeks ago.

This is a link to a very interesting interview with Denis Pagan on SEN yesterday, that's relevant to this topic. He believes strength and conditioning coaches are having too much influence, essentially resting and protecting players too much. He says if players can't cope with what's dished up on the training track, how are they going to cope in the high-intensity games?

Re: About training
I tend to agree with that article Aldo... do we need strength and conditioning coaches?
Surely the coach and his assistants can get the players fit. That's all they used in the old days.
Players seem soft these days, a little bruise and they miss a week, perhaps Physios have too much input as well.

Re: About training
Great article thanks mate and great comments whispy
In my opinion and observations, these days the medical staff seem to be a lot more reluctant to clear a player for full training until 100 percent healed and then lets have another two weeks in case -- i believe this is due to legal issues and professional ethics issues.
I observed two of the best west adelade head trainers in action (dave watkins and then lee harradine) and in both cases these gentlemen made thier decisions in consultation with the players and then by observation of testing with the head coach. These guys also liased with club doctor and acted as central point for overall pllayer health and wellfare ---- i do not recall many player coming back from injury too early or late and cannot remember any occasion where a player has sufferred due to wrong or ineffective treatment in thier time
I feel it is time to reverse the present trend of short period (2 to 3 years) physios as head trainer and revert to experienced old style head trainers with a proven history and trained for the job within the club by ojt. Your degree is nice but not totaly relevant or suited to a football environment

Re: About training
Ps aldo -- on rereading the article he does not actually mention strength and conditioning staff nor medical staff rather suggests a very hard preseason fitness routine is required.
i am fully supportive of have a professional strength and conditioning coach who directs and monitors area specific coaches eg weights, running and endurance
I do believe that medical arrangements need to be reviewed urgently at the club

oldfella, on the page that that link takes you to there is a small box on the right hand side that contains the audio of the interview, where he talks about strength and conditioning coaches and the rest of it.

Re: About training
Thanks mate -- did not notice link to audio.
Is very interesting subject another area that interests me is how many players retire from senior football through losing love of game and enjoyment rather than body injury issues
Maybe time to put fun back into the game 😀😀😀

Re: About training
The Denis Pagan interview seems spot on to me.
I would imagine that a significant part of the KPI's for
Head Strength and Conditioing Coach is how many players
complete a full Pre- Season.

Re: About training
As i understand it lachlan while the strength and conditioning coach is responsible for designing and implementing an appropriate individual rehabilitation programs whilst obviously consulted with for his opinion at the end of the day the final decision on returning to full training and/or playing rests with the head trainer.
Given these thought (if correct) the the number of players completing a full preseason would not fairly be part of the KPI's.
I am now a outsider looking in so perhaps someone who actually knows may wish to comment.
Ps have a great year mate

Re: About training
The decision whether a player is fit to play rests with the doctor and physio, oldfella.
