Re: West vs Adelaide
It was great to end the season with a comprehensive win and to send off 2 premiership players, Porplyzia and Webb, in fitting fashion.
We finished in seventh position on the 2018 ladder with 8 wins from 19 rounds of footy. These 8 wins included 2 each against 4 teams, South, Centrals, Adelaide and PPR. That leaves 5 teams we couldn’t beat, Norwood, Sturt, Eagles, North and Glenelg.
We don’t like small grounds, losing on Norwood, Glenelg and Unley ovals but liked the large grounds like Elizabeth, Noarlunga, Alberton and, of course, Richmond.
Of the team that played today, three players, Porplyzia, Rankine and Webb won’t play again for the Bloods. There must be doubt over someone like Shannon Green (30) who battled injury this season but, the other 30yo, Logan Hill is playing some of his best footy since breaking his leg by falling over his current coach all those years ago.
After a shaky start today we settled to kick 16 goals to 7 in the last 3 quarters. Waite and Parella dropped out and young Dunkin came in. Webb rucked and Beech booted 5 goals including 3 in the second Q. We only just failed to kick our biggest score of the season which was 20.12 also against the Crows reserves in Round 8. Final score, WA19.16 Adelaide 10.6.
After being top a few weeks ago our Reserves team finished 4th and will play an elimination final next week. Several close losses in recent weeks and a very even Ressies competition counted against us at the business end of the season. Still, the team is very settled and will benefit from not having the senior team also playing finals.
