what financal return do we get for our AFL drafted players.as we have invested time and money into a lot of these players and the AFL NEEDS to keep clubs and competions financally viable to keep there competion viable as well.is it true we do not receive the same monetry returns as we did like in 2003 .

Nothing!

Every club gets 50K a year regardless of how many are drafted! We could have done with the $$$$ and got some reward for effort from the AFL but they don't care about grass roots footy or state league footy

Thanks no reflection on westies but think SANFL sold us out especially when one club can lose so many players.

We lose 6 players this year - We now deduct their playing contracts from our salary cap.
Whatever they are paid is now available for recruiting BUT keep in mind, our juniors from U18's were on low payments and were guns.

We get 50K no matter what each year from now on whether we have 20 drafted or none.
What is worse is rookie players can play against their old sides representing the 5 year old club Port Magpies or 3 Year old Crows sides. It sucks from a club point of view but you have to be happy for the kids drafted.

Financially - Yes, you are right - No help at all and this needs to be addressed especially with the AFL getting such huge amounts from TV deals.

Wish I had better news mailman but that is how it is at the moment.

Just a few points of interest.

Each club now gets $50,000 regardless of how many players are drafted. It used to be a bigger amount, but was paid on a drip system when various criteria were met, such as playing a certain number of games. Clubs were paid very little gor rookie drafted players.

Clubs were in favour of the new system, as it allowed certainty in budgeting.

There is a top up payment made every 3 years as well, though. I think it's about $10,000 per drafted player in that 3 year period, so we'll get at least another $40,000 next year.

Bear in mind we only had one player drafted last year (I think) and who knows if there'll be much next year.

It's the new reality, unfortunately. We have to deal with what we have, so good luck to all the boys.

Meanwhile, we're working hard to replace players as well as we can, but IMO it's impossible to replace Jonno Beech.
