WEST v EAGLES Empty WEST v EAGLES

Post by Guest Mon Sep 07, 2015 11:32 am

Thoughts for this match?

Porps shoulder fell out and got banged back into place.
Taite looked like he did a hammy. Hopefully not as he played very well.
Agostino or Hommy?

I would think Silverlock seasons is done unless we make the GF.
He looked very proppy after the game.
Do they risk Porps or give him the week off. If we win he gets two weeks off........
Hardy had 3 kicks and didn't take a mark. Perhaps Webby gets a crack this week.........
Homburg for Silverlock.

A tough one. I understand that Porps is fine. More to do with a nerve in his neck which he is having looked at.

I think Webby is a big chance to replace Hardy. I think Justin is about cooked.

Hommy or Agostino for Taite plus I would be very tempted to play Francis if he has recovered from gastro as he is a really strong mark & gives us the flexibility of playing forward or back depending on the game.

Remember he wasn't at all well against Port at Alberton but still did a couple of useful things in the first half before coming off sick as a dog.

A good performance in a key game will be a great opportunity for Francis to press his claims for a top 10 draft pick.

Webb for Hardy is a must.

Webb for Hardy definitely.
Francis for Middleton probably.
Homburg/Agostino in if Silverlock misses.

Webby for Hardy is a must.

I'm not sure about Francis he has played a half
of league footy in the past 6 or 7 weeks.

Silverlock is an extremely important player for us and
I don't think we have a real replacement for him.
I would go for Homburg ahead of Agostino as I believe
Agostino right now is more of a small defender than a
Midfielder. In time I think Agostino could develop
into a midfielder

Lachlan remember we didn't play Lairdy in the GF a couple of seasons ago and it bit us on the ass. Francis has to play.

Brodlach

I do remember that Fisher came back from injury to replace Laird.

Francis situation is different to that of Laird

Francis has played school footy for 4 weeks and then he has only played half a league game the following week and he wasn't selected yesterday due to illness. Not a great preparation in my book.

It's a tough call however I would leave him out

Francis is more likely than any of the other talls mentioned above to take a couple of marks up forward, and slot a couple.

Francis is a must in my view. As I said before, his marking power & flexibility to play both ends of the ground is critical in our push for the premiership.

Sometimes you have to make the big selection calls & this is one of them.

He is tall, young, fit & one of the best talents in the country so why would you let him sit & watch. We may never see him again. The fact that he has missed a bit of match time won't worry him he is that good.

Scorps, how about picking somebody who is at least training with us.

Chris Bonney would not be in the frame. How would some of the other lads feel if he was selected out of the blue. We would have a mass exodus.

Probably less likely to play than Chris Bonney, considering he is getting around in a Moon Boot.

Riley Bonner is in a moon boot.

I don't think an untried Brind would come in for such an important final. His time will come.

I think Nick Homburg would deservedly be next cab off the rank, if there's a spot.

WEST
West Adelaide coach Mark Mickan has opted not to risk wingman Taite Silverlock for Sunday’s Second Semi-Final against the Eagles at Adelaide Oval.
Sidelined during the second half of the Bloods’ Qualifying Final win, Silverlock was forced to spend the rest of the match off the ground with ice strapped to his leg.
The left-footer will now focus on recovering in time for the club’s next outing, which could be in the Preliminary Final should the Bloods succumb to the minor premier.
Three players have been included in Mickan’s 23-man squad but which one replaces Silverlock will be decided before the bounce.
Experienced key forward Daniel Webb has again been named in the extended squad while star AFL Draft prospect Aaron Francis returns from a bout of the flu.
But the most realistic replacement would be Nick Homburg, who has regularly played on the wing for the Bloods and is closest to Silverlock in height and weight given he measures in at 182cm and 78kg.
Veteran forward Jason Porplyzia has been listed in the forward pocket despite hurting his neck in the victory against the Magpies in the final term.
The former Crow was able to return to the ground with extra strapping, indicating he should be fit to confront the Eagles.

F: Porplyzia, Willits, Fielke
HF: Green, Tuck, Beech
C: Helbig, Stevens, Schiller
HB: Caire, Hartlett, Wasley-Black
B: Anderson, Keough, Hill

R: Middleton, Schmidt, Snelling
INT: Hardy, Haysman, Francis, Webb, Homburg
IN: Webb, Francis, Homburg
OUT: Silverlock (hamstring)
