Re: Any
There'll be plenty more delistings, but delisted AFL players demand a hefty price tag.
We've recruited one already - Brad Helbig, who resisted better offers to come back to Westies.
Would you delist some of our current players for us to afford any of the above, Scorps?

Re: Any
It's fantastic that we have signed Brad Helbig. He will be very good for us that's for sure.
I wouldn't target anymore delisted AFL players however I believe the Recruiting Committee
Should be Targeting a Good key forward and two Quality outside mids with pace and sound foot skills
And if this means we need to delist a few of our current players to get these Recruits to Westies
Well I'm all in favour of doing it as we need to get BETTER because this current playing
Group hasn't DELIVERED A PREMIERSHIP.
Finishing 2nd,3rd and 9th in the past 3 years isn't good enough

On delisting players from West I wouldn't like to name players
Below are some players names who should be spoken too, some are ex S.A. boys
To inquire about their future would only wouldn't cost much

Re: Any
Good list, Scorps.
We're talking to a number of players, but many don't want tp move to SA, or are in the big money category.
With recruiting, it's not only the money involved, it's also often finding employment, whether partners can move, study and all sorts of things like that.

What about the players that are moving on?
Birss and Fisher have retired. Who else will we lose?

Michael Still is gone, possibly Ryan Anderson?. Read a rumor on another site that Beech might join Collins at Williamstown next season.Wolf Pack wrote:What about the players that are moving on?

Re: Any
Michael Still has moved back to Victoria. Ryan Anderson is likely to play country football. As you say, Shane Birss and Ben Fisher had retired.
I hope Beechy stays with us.

Re: Any
Yes, Scorps, Schroder is a gun.
Unfortunately we needed a midfielder and a key forward/ruckman and we've already been fortunate enough to recruit Brad Helbig.
Schroder would cost a big, big dollar.
We'll see if the draft affects us and whether Beechy signs.

Re: Any
So we have lost Still, Anderson, Fisher, Birrs and possibly Beech. What have we gained? Helbig is a good pick up but we need a couple more experienced players to cover our losses.
Please don't say we have some good under 18's players coming through (i know we have) but most are still a season or 2 away for league level.
Can't see Westies improving that much and another disappointing season coming up unless our recruiters can lure a few experienced players to the club.
Hope to be proved wrong though.

Re: Any
Neither Still nor Anderson played half a season, and the contributions of Fisher and Birss were well below what they've provided in the past. We certainly need to improve our list but I don't think we've lost a huge amount so far - certainly less than what we lost last year, at least so far.

Re: Any
I think one thing that is often overlooked is stability. We now have probably the biggest percentage of players who played junior footy with us than any other club.
This should help stabilise our list and have players who are there for the right reasons as we'll.
Getting young players on the way up seems a good strategy, while backing them up with experienced players in our weaker spots.
We are working hard to retain all the players required and I hope we can keep Beechy, as he is a great player for us.

Re: Any
Agreed, Beechy is our best player and he had a great season.
Well done for making the team of the year. Hopefully the club can convince him to stay.

Re: Any
I agree with Aldo the players we have lost weren't great contributors this year.
The concern I have is the lack of Two key forwards in our current playing list.
This has been an ongoing problem for too long
