Elimination Final Empty Elimination Final

Post by Wolf Pack Sat Sep 11, 2021 12:04 pm

So we stacked our Reserves Team with plenty of players with League Experience. Over 200 games worth!!!
Including AFL experience, a Premiership player and a player invited to the Draft Combine this year.

We kicked 3 goals for the game and had the leading 8 players on the ground for possessions against a team of no names.

Further evidence that this is the worst group of footballers at the club for nearly 40 years.

Absolutely appalling stuff.

Time for Brad Gotch to cull the squad right back and start again.

That was pathetic today!!

I think we all agree with you ‘Wolfpack’

We finish 5th in an 8 team comp and play Mitch Taylor who is 30 for the whole year in the Ressies. There was never a chance he would play League footy. I really can’t understand why he was retained on our list this year. Everyone knew he was simply not good enough to play SANFL league footy

Will be interesting to see how many we let go.
There should be plenty!!

From the Reserves team yesterday only Lovell, Meline, Redfern and a couple of others that would be SANFL League standard.

Why was Lovell playing Ressies for the last several games?

What was that all about?

Yes, Davidson can play but his body has let him down.
Hopefully he sticks around next year.

Like Wolf Pack, I was shocked by yesterday's score line. With the players available, I expected us to play in a GF. Instead, we suffered a humiliating loss to a team which finished 5th out of eight after the completion of the home and away games. We had 46 more possessions, double the number of hit outs and almost the same number of clearances, yet allowed Centrals to kick 14 consecutive goals. Centrals had 55 inside 50s for 14-12 to our 3-8 from 39 entries.

There is something fundamentally wrong in the football department. How can so many players at one club have such poor disposal skills? Even our captain, arguably our most important player, has a disposal efficiency of 63%. Our return from inside 50s is nearly always poor. Our U18s had the same number of disposals and only one less inside 50 (43/42) yet only produced 17 scoring opportunities to the Eagles 28.

As Wolf Pack points out, we had the top eight leading possession getters on the ground. (190/323 = 58.82%) Surely, if they used the ball effectively we would have scored more than 3 goals. I have no idea what the disposal efficiency of these players was yesterday, but 4 of them have ratings under 70% for games played this season. (68% 63% 58% 63%) Simply not good enough.

I think Wolf Pack is right. We need to cull players who have proven that they are not up to league standard. The main purpose of the Development Squad is to develop potential league players, not to win grand finals. To claim that an improved win/loss ratio in the Reserves is an indication of improvement is misleading as it is to claim that marginal improvement in some statistics is evidence of improvement. Six wins in three years is evidence that there has been no improvement and to argue otherwise is illogical. We cannot afford to carry on the way we have been. There needs to be a huge improvement both on and off the field.

Elimination Final Empty Re: Elimination Final

Watched both of the games at Thebby on Saturday and, in regard to the Reserves game, agree with the above comments. Our boys were given the run around by a low key Centrals outfit that played as a team. It was an extremely disappointing performance by the Bloods.
The U18s game was quite different. These kids play a purer form of the game. Attack is the priority with long kicking and minimal chipping and sideways switching. The 2 tall, strong marking full forwards at either end dominated. We started well but faded under a strong fightback from the Eagles, but a much more entertaining contest. Lemmey dominant but Luke Young looked good and it made one wonder why he wasn’t given a few games late in our senior season. He has a strong body and kicks goals.
It was great to see such a good turn out from both supporters and the senior team, including coaching staff.
Rather think that having a 2021 season review conducted by a couple of independent outsiders might be the go if we are to be truly objective about the current state of the club. The review conducted last year would have to be considered a failure.

Agree about Young. I mentioned him before his first Reserves game.

I've watched him for a few years now.

Can play.

Hamish Hartlett any chance?
