Rd 7 West v Eagles
Could be multiple changes this week.
Possible ins: Beech, Lovell, Taverner, Batley, Squire, Waite, Redfern
Possible outs: P. Fairlie, C. Fairlie, Steele, Cleeland, Sinderberry, Schiller.
It's not a game we'd be expected or expecting to win, so nothing to lose by trying a few things.

Would expect 3 or 4 changes this week.
Taverner has to be our first choice ruck.
Unlikely that we could beat the Eagles but we need to make it a contest.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
I think Taverner will definitely come in for Ellam, with Cleeland moving to FF and the Second Ruck. Ellam has been extremely disappointing this year.
Hopefully Beech and Lovell are back.
Our Midfield of Allan,Schiller and P.Fairlie are similar type players and one of them should be dropped, and the latter would be the one I would drop.
Sinderberry definitely need a run in the ressies. Why he was given the match up early on Hender is beyond me. Batley will come in.
I think C. Fairlie is an average SANFL PLayer who gives his all every week, however our future is in players like Chamberlain amd Redfern.

Lachlan I had the same reaction to the Hender match up. We lack a bit of speed in defence, as well as in the midfield.
Wish the mid season draft was this week, I reckon the Eagles might lose a couple.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
We definitely lack pace through the midfield, perhaps Chamberlain could be tried at half back, however I think Batley will be given the opportunity to play there given his excellent form in the ressies.
We have also missed Waite.

Not sure if we have picked the right team this week.
Taverner should be the number 1 ruck.
Ellem continues to get a game despite kicking 1 goal in 6 matches.

Their side looks incredibly strong. We need a big effort from everyone to stay with them as long as we can.

No wonder we have a small supporter base
No skill at all no structure no run
Horrible to watch

That may be our worst performance since 2015. Extremely disappointing after last week's abyssal effort. Not much more can be said. North failed to beat Port today, so winning next week's game at Alberton would seem impossible. Let's hope for an improved effort.

Absolutely pathetic performance.
Poor skills
Poor structure
Poor everything!!!!!
Every time we went inside 50, we were outnumbered by 3 or 4 to 1.
Lots of guys out there today who were not prepared to put in the effort.
Lots of changes required for next week!!!!

I'm sure Gotch said he wanted to implement a more attacking game plan this season?
so, where is it?

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
Another woeful performance.
Our onfield performances since 2015 are laughable.
We need to make a number of changes this week against Port.
The coach stuck by the players after the North debacle he can’t do it next week.
Levicki, C.Fairlie,Steele,Schiller,Haysman,Sinderberry and Ellam need to be dropped.
We need to move a number of players on at the end of the year yet again.
Chamberlain,Redfern and Fejo ( didn’t play in the ressies today)are all young and need to be given a number of opportunities in the league side.
It’s time to promote these kids as we need to get games into them.
I did think Squire did a couple of good things today.

also, maybe we should try having more West forwards in our forward half then Port defenders when on the rare occasion the ball comes into our forward line?Lachlan wrote:Another woeful performance.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
I agree with Lachlan’s assessment of the players.
Our ruckman today had 0 kicks and 0 marks for the entire game!
How is that possible?
A few of the die hard supporters left before 3 qtr time.
I’ve never seen a team go inside 50 and be out numbered 3 or 4 to 1 so many times like we did today.
Absolutely diabolical performance from coaching group and players!!!!

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
After finally having a free weekend after getting my new build to lock up stage I was so excited to finally be able to watch the Bloods today. My excitement didn’t last long (at least I enjoyed the 1st qtr but all down hill after that). Was surprised that not many major changes were made for the Eagles clash today, after being on the end of a thumping from the Roosters prior to the bye. . Sinderberry would struggle to play ressies at any other club, and Ellem looks extremely unfit and not able to run out 4 qtrs. Levicki must be carrying an injury and why we would play him against a strong Eagles line up is beyond me? Let’s hope Gotch doesn’t have a 3 strikes and your out policy otherwise we will have another cricket score kicked against us with Magpies next week. Unless there are major changes I won’t be making the long drive down to Alberton only to see the same result.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
Unlike some other posters I didn't think it was so much a lack of effort today as a lack of ability. There were some occasions when midfielders and defenders didn't chase hard enough but it's basically down to talent in my view. It should now be clear to the football department that it needs to make up a deficit of about 12-15 goals on the good teams.
It was very hard to work out what we were trying to do today, with the number of kicks to outnumbered teammates, and the amount of space the Eagles seemed to get. It was also concerning that, just 7 games into the season, we basically ended up having to abandon the game plan and put everyone behind the ball.
One pre-requisite for players we recruit should be that they must be able to kick the ball 40 metres to a teammate. It's a basic that a lot of our players seem unable to pull off.
I thought Squire had a good game overall, and that was about it.
Gavin Colville must feel very relieved.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
I think when you lose a game by 100 points, the effort and intensity isn’t there.
Yes, we lack the skill and talent of most teams but you don’t need skill to run hard and man up on an opponent. I don’t think we did either of those well today.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
It's a reality check. Pre-season comments that our recruiting was excellent didn't take into account the level of talent needed to compete at a level required to make finals.
We recruited several midfielders of a similar type, few if any with pace or evasive skills or elite kicks
We didn't recruit any talls of high league standard.
Our problem is that our better players are generally getting towards the end of their careers rather than their peak years.
The reality is that there is no improvement that we're told is there.
We are in 2008 territory, where there was a clean-out at the end of the year. I think Brad Gotch is now well aware of where the squad is at and will do as much as possible to change for the better.
The history of West is to whitewash history, pretend better times are ahead and stifle any criticism.
We need to be united, but face up to the reality of where we stand.
I'd like to be more confident about that than I am.

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
Looks like we can also add the Eagles to Sturt, North, Port, South as teams its better to not bother attending as it is likely to be a HT departure as West are smoked and completely defeated within 2 quarters.
We might have won two games, will we win anymore? How have we actually improved? Fact is that we are MILES off the better teams, not even close. I have found other ways to spend my weekends since 2015, not seeing any reason to make the effort to attend when there is no more than a 50/50 chance of their being a game worth stayng after HT as it is already over.
At least we might be somewhat competetive against Centrals, the crows and ......

I agree the history of West is to white wash history , pretend better times ahead and stifle any criticism . As long as these people can meet up for their weekly luncheons and West finish between 4 and 6 they are happy . Now with all these changes to the oval in the near future i wonder what will really happen to the real West Adelaide . Please selectors how about playing more players over 5 foot 10 inches in the team to give us a chance . Selections over last couple of years has lacked no imagination .

Re: Rd 7 West v Eagles
Surely we need to make changes and promote Chamberlain,Redfern and Fejo ( if he’s available).
Secondly we need to change our forward line structure. Haysman has been playing at half forward and that’s not his position, he doesn’t kick goals, he’s a wingman. We have a number of players like him.
We lack height in our forward line, we need to try something.
Once again our Recruiting Committee need to be talking to players now for next year.
