Come on blacky, if our life members stop going we're in big trouble. Share the pain. (That's not a bad slogan for a Bloods bumper sticker.)

oldfella, I still can't see the improvement you see.
That was a poor effort and Sturt put the cue in the rack in the last quarter.
Kudos to Duval who was excellent.

Well, that was bad.
Where the first 2 games just needed the removal of 4 or 5 skill errors, this one needed about 100.

Absolute Rubbish!!!
Anyone who thinks we have improved are kidding themselves.
Time to wield the axe and bring in some players who are prepared to work hard and put their body on the line!!!
Today was as soft as I’ve seen for a long time.
For the record, Mitch Duval was very good.

Re: Rd 3 West v Sturt
the final score line doesn't accurately reflect the game, that was easily a 100+ thrashing!
just give us the (another!) wooden spoon now and forfeit the rest of the season.

Re: Rd 3 West v Sturt
That was an abysmal performance. More concerning than our poor skills and our inability to win contests though is our lack of spirit. I expected our players to be rejuvenated by a new coach, new approach and new fitness director and to play with enthusiasm. It doesn't look that way from the sidelines. Like last week we seemed to lack intent, physicality, a willingness to run and, at times, interest.
Some of our better players have gone backwards. Confidence looks low already after just 3 rounds. It's bewildering.
Mitch Duvall was our best by a long way and should get a medal for the mark he took in the last quarter given the scoreline. This, the only example of leadership, came from outside the extensive leadership group.
By the way, did we actually play with 22 players today? May made up the 22 but he didn't register a stat and I don't recall seeing him on the ground.

Re: Rd 3 West v Sturt
Some good observations there Aldo.
The lack of physicality is a real problem. Our players don’t seem to attack the contest as hard as the opposition. Effort and intensity at the contest doesn’t require skill. Today there was none.
I’ve seen harder teams in the Amateur League!!
Still only 3 rounds in but the spoon looks ours again.
Apart from Duval, the rest of the backline was really poor today.
Several players should be dropped after that performance.
Ed Allan, Redfern and Aaron Anderson should be promoted this week. Perhaps Steele as well.

Re: Rd 3 West v Sturt
Our lack of height stood out, especially with Ellem as the back-up ruckman & no tall key forwards.
I thought Sturt showed acceleration when needed, especially in support, whereas we seemed to run faster only when we had the ball or thought we might get it.
Sturt weren't interested in scoring in the last quarter, which made it totally boring.
Last week's opponents were beaten by 13 goals today.
We've been asked to be patient. I think that's a deflection from the real issues we face and we should at last be truthful about where we stand.
We stand at the bottom.
Again.

Will be interesting to see what sort of response we get on Friday night against Norwood.
No doubt Norwood will come out hard after their poor performance....

Our next two games are at home and realistically our best chance to win one for a while. After these we play North (Prospect), Eagles (Richmond), Port (Alberton) and South (Richmond) If we don't win one of our next two games we stand every chance of being 0/9 halfway through the season.
As Wolf Pack says, it will be very interesting to see how we respond to the limp loss against Sturt. I'm still waiting to see this considerable improvement that one poster mentioned.
We really need to win our next two games to develop some self belief among the playing group and restore enthusiasm within the membership. It would also build some momentum as we take on the better teams.

Re: Rd 3 West v Sturt
I guess that depends on whether or not the football department believed a response was necessary. A mediocre performance might not be enough to initiate some soul searching, but an embarrassing one definitely would. We all remember 2018's humiliating 128pt loss to North at Prospect and then the following week's win over Centrals at Elizabeth. Yesterday's loss to Sturt was just as humiliating as the loss to North three years ago. (given Sturt's inaccuracy in front of goal + 34 more inside 50s) So, a similar response to the one in 2018 is required. We are playing our arch nemesis on our own deck. How much more motivation is needed?aldo russian wrote:Wolf Pack wrote:Will be interesting to see what sort of response we get on Friday night against Norwood.
