Loyalty Empty Loyalty

Centrals posted the following on its website:
The Club is continuing to attempt to recruit a couple of players and is looking forward to attacking the 2021 Season with a group of players who are ‘Team First’ in their attitude and want to play for the Red, White & Blue.

Obviously hurting over the defection of the Menzel's. How disappointing is it when players choose to leave their home club in order to either increase their chances of playing in a GF or for a few dollars more. Surely, it must be more satisfying to return to the club where you played junior football (and learned your craft) and contribute to success there. Would we have won a flag in 2015 without the contributions of Jason, Chris, Brad, Ryan and Adam?

The AFL is a different animal with the various drafts and deals - more of a meat market. On the other hand, the SANFL allows for a greater degree of loyalty and I think SANFL clubs are entitled to expect former juniors to return to the club after their AFL careers/dreams have ended.

Durdin's recent signing with Glenelg was equally disappointing. Centrals' statement is bang on, but in our case:
[We are] looking forward to attacking the 2021 Season with a group of players who are ‘Team First’ in their attitude and want to play for the Red [and Black]
