Johnson’s CV isn’t overly flattering, time will tell if he can make a SANFL Player

It is great to get some meaningful communication from the club.
I do think though that they're being extremely optimistic in suggesting 14 of our U18 players will be "coming up to senior football". Historically you do well to get 3 League players from a good year at U18 level. 14 from a wooden spoon year is hard to imagine.

I hear the club is optimistic of a couple of new good signings not far away.

Let’s hope so.

All clubs seem to be recruiting well.
We certainly are a KPP short at this stage. Let’s hope the club can find one.

That's right, but they're saying the U18s will add to our depth, i.e. players who can play League when there are injuries.

I’d be confident some of those kids could step up if needed after another preseason

Our Under 18s were poor last year.

I watched several of their games.

There are a couple who might step up, but most will need a season of Reserves.

If Mitch Duvall is drafted or more likely rookied, it would leave a big hole.

Speaking of Under 18's who might come on - Josh Smithson was highly touted as a draft prospect a few years back, didn't get drafted and went back to country football. Last I heard he was at Bute in 2019. Is he lost to Westies forever?

I think so.

I nention him in my book, don't think he wanted the commitment of SANFL after that.

Sounds exciting wolf pack, we are really piling on the midfielders again for 2021 so there will be plenty of competition on keeping your spot in the league side. I’d be looking at trying to get abit of height up forward that knows where the goals are and down back who can take marks and win there position.

I believe that Parella & Tavener have left the Club?
Does anyone know why?
Leaves us without a ruckman.

I didn’t rate Parella, but with both Ruckmen departing it’s now absolutely imperative we sign a quality Ruckman.

Yes we have recruited a couple of good players but now the Recruiting Committee really need to find a very good ruckman plus another quality KPP

We have recruited Lucas Meline from Canberra Demons.

Andre Parella and Stuart Taverner are confirmed as outs.

Hopefully we can recruit a ruckman or two.

Our recruiting has been very good.
Do we have a ruckman in our squad now?
I’m thinking we don’t have one which is a problem!!

The Football Manager told the Forum that they had a couple of options in mind, one who was training last night.

However, he did explain that ruckmen weren't essential if you had good midfielders, which was less reassuring.

Also, is one of our experienced midfielders out for a long time?

I disagree with the Football Mgr we definitely do need a couple of Ruckmen.

Hunter made a big difference to South when he joined them.
Norwood obviously think it’s important once they lost Baulderstone they quickly signed Knoll who will be a great addition for them.

I’m sure West Coast,Melbourne and Collingwood would also disagree.

Listening to Wayne speak last night I totally agree with him we might of had the second best hit out ruckman in the league but if he doesn’t tap it to the midfielders there is a problem that needs to be fixed that’s why we have concentrated on getting classy midfielders that win the one on one and also I did recall Wayne saying that we are talking to 3 ruckman atm and they are weighing up there options on what’s going to be the perfect fit for our side within the next 10days we will know who they have chosen and I think Wayne and Derek have done magnificent job and success is there first priority so I’m excited for 2021 Go U Bloods!!!

Barkez,

Your recollection of what Wayne said is exactly what i recall (well captured mate).

Lachlan --- I did not interpret it as the football manager suggesting that they were not chasing or intending to recruit a ruckman rather the opposite! --- he (IMO) was being open in explaining to members present that the overall ruck combination needed to be addressed and also explained how with the 6 forward rule a center bounce clearance tend to lead to a shot on goal.

Key words in his address that Barkez quoted and at the time immediately caught my ear were quote "also I did recall Wayne saying that we are talking to 3 ruckman atm and they are weighing up there options on what’s going to be the perfect fit for our side within the next 10days we will know who they have chosen" end quote ---- to me it is clear what is coming in next 10-15 days.

Also of interest given Wayne's briefing on overall ruck combination was a small mention of the of how they are in the process of identifying a ruck coach as previously announced.

Overall i feel that they are taking the Ruckman and Ruck situation very seriously.
