Salary Cap and Recruiting
The SANFL have confirmed that the 2021 cap will be $210,000 compared to $400,000 pre Covid.
Given our need to attract players, I fear that this decision is going to really hurt our club more than others.

Re: Salary Cap and Recruiting
It may though players are not going to get any more with anyone else. At the end of the day I believe the great majority of players play for the love of the game, and wanting to play at the highest level they can. They played for nothing this year. What will become even more important is having a club atmosphere and organisation that makes players want to play for Westies above all others. You don't get that by bouncing around the bottom of the table and / or having in fighting off field or a slack or useless management/board etc.

I agree with both of you if that's possible. It will mean getting players to shift from interstate will be more about factors other than contract payments, i.e. the coach, footy department, the club's vision and employment.

Re: Salary Cap and Recruiting
Unfortunately it’s the world we live in these days. Spending has or is being cut everywhere. Banks aren’t paying dividends and the AFL is cutting footy dept spending.
I think the new coach will play an important part in getting players to our club, as will employment.
All contracts with current SANFL player’s may need to be reduced so we can recruit.

Will amateur league and associations like the Barossa league will have payment restrictions as well .??????. If not players are likely to go to them.

Re: Salary Cap and Recruiting
Yes Bundy that will be a problem. There has always been under the counter payments, private bonuses by wealthy supporters, jobs etc offered to attract good players in country leagues.
Near impossible to control/stop too in small towns, leagues etc.
For example... come play at a Roxby Downs club for next to nothing but with it comes free housing and a $100,000+ job at the mines.

Re: Salary Cap and Recruiting
No different to the Power reserves offering a player the same money as what were offered but the AFL Power also offered him a $20k AFL coaching role ===== guess where he went.
Its not only brown paper bags it is about jobs for partner etc

The maximum teams in leagues are meant to pay is up to $2500 a week with $500 the most one player can earn.

Jonathan Beech will make his return to West Adelaide in 2021 after taking a year off from SANFL football. After winning the Roger Luders Award for most goals kicked in 2019, Jono decided to have a year off and move interstate and felt 2021 was the right time to come back to the West Adelaide Football Club.“I am really looking forward to being back at the Bloods in 2021”

Jono won the West Adelaide Best and Fairest award in 2014 and was a member of the 2015 Premiership side and is a highly respected player at West Adelaide and the broader SANFL community.
Known for his courageous marking and elite goal kicking, Jono was picked up as a rookie for the Adelaide Football Club where he spent two seasons and played three AFL matches with goal on debut.
The West Adelaide Football Club welcomes Jono and the entire Beech family back to the West Adelaide Football Club.
We are also happy to announce the signing of one of the best players from the Riverina League in Luke Redfern who will make the move to SA to play for the Bloods in 2021."
