Zac Milbank right on top of it again suggesting Thilthorpe could surprise by starting in the ruck. Does he watch any games?

Well going by the first half it's a battle of which team is going to be the least incompetent. I'm backing North.
That said, we're only 2 goals down and North had 3 goals from frees, at least 2 of which were ridiculous. We get hammered by them week after week.
We need to leave Ellem up forward and try to get Keough into the game somehow, maybe by giving him a run on the ball. He's right out of it and was last week too.

A good quarter, plenty of run. North look top heavy & fumbling under pressure.

One more quarter.

Disappointing...
Had the game almost sewn up.
Koster kicks the goal and we win the game.
North always get the umpire ride and got a couple of goals courtesy of them.
At least we showed something tonight.

Add that to Sturt, and centrals game and its yet another one that should be marked down as a win. The umps shafted us (that silver haired wnker seems to always do that) especially in the last but irrespective of that, we did everything we possibly could have to lose that at the end. Complete lack of any composure and loser mentality.

I don't think I've ever seen us make so many mistakes and still nearly win a game. Our first 3 disposals of the game were 3 handballs that all missed their targets. We had so many opportunities to win tonight and were just too fumbly and sub-par with skills and decision making to take advantage. Our poor skill level has not improved in 3 years.

Duvall was again terrific. Boyle and Stevens worked hard. But we were smashed in ruck.

Another area where we need to improve is when we have a mark or free between centre and the 50 metre arc. I'd think we very rarely score from these static entries to our forward 50, almost all our goals come from open play or running the ball into the forward 50 until we find someone loose. We need to work out what to do when we kick into the crowded forward 50 from these situations because we rarely take a mark from these entries and rarely hold the ball in.

North were very unimpressive tonight but for all our faults we could have beaten them with a reasonable run from the umpires.

We certainly had our chances. It was clear we tried to play a faster, play on style tonight and it looked much better than the 'chip it around the backlines' method we'd been playing.

Our mistakes and fumbling undid us, although our pressure on North led them into a lot of errors also, so it came down to not taking the vital chances. Regardless of the umpires, we should have wrapped up the game with less than 10 minutes left with a relatively easy shot that would have put us 3 goals clear. Missing that and North immediately converting meant only a goal the difference and a huge shift in each team's belief.

We've found a player in Duval, also Boyle, while Kaine Stevens was very good. North's on-ballers really statted up, though and Coombe kicked 4, the second week in a row the opposition's 'non-key' forwards have kicked multiple goals.

I also liked some of Morrish's game, Ellem will be a good player next year, Riley Thilthorpe started well, but seemed to fade out a bit and Tom Keough had a quiet one. Hugh Haysman and Kenny Karpany had their best games, Pat Levicki (on Hender?) was excellent and Isaac Johnson is a good player.

We should have won, but we didn't.

Top teams always find away to win. Yet again we lose a close game that we should have definitely won.
We were brave with our ball movement which has been missing for many weeks. We tried to move the ball quickly which was encouraging. We should have led by more at 3/4 time however we didn’t Have a forward who could take a mark and that has been an issue for far to long.

It’s so frustrating to come away from a game knowing we should have won.

People only remember winners and as a supporter I walked away extremely disappointed. We need to find away to win games like that.

Boyle, Duval,Turner, Stevens especially in the first half, Johnson and Haysman were good.
Our tall players let us down tonight. We were smashed in the ruck and in clearances.

We need to recruit players that can kick and who make good decisions.

Who would want to be a Coach?

We're 1 win and a draw so far, but just a few skill errors at the wrong time or a decision or two from perhaps at least 4 or 5 wins.

Still, we're 3 points only for the season and that's the reality.

As for recruiting, Mitch Duval, Jordan Boyle and Hamish Ellem all look like being part of our longer-term plans, along with one or two others.

Lee

I agree with you Boyle and Duval  have been good recruits this year.
Ellam is young and will get better especially if we can recruit a genuine key forward.

Heartbreaking for players & supporters, but with the 2nd half of the season underway, it provides the opportunity to gauge improvement and if the boys are the closing the gap (29 pt loss to North in Rnd 1). Happy to see a 4 qtr effort put in and players prepared to take more risks and break the lines with run & carry. A definite improvement on Rnd 1 vs North and a stand out game from young Mitch Duval who shut down Lewy Hender who kicked 7 against us last time. Impressive performance from the back 6 and our midfield starting to click & prepared to use the corridor with fast ball movement. Delivery in to our forward line still lacking structure as we elect to kick to a 1v2 or lower the eyes to hit u lead up forward. Disappointing loss when we had our opportunities to put North away, but a lot to like about this game. Next week provides opportunity to show continued improvement this season and the only way for the playing group to show that is with a big win over the Dogs. Bring on next week!

I thought some of our guys looked pretty tired in the last quarter, and a couple cramped up. Having checked I see that, again, we've only won 1 last quarter this year. Some have been close but I wonder if there's still a fitness issue there.

The screenshots show that the mark was taken around where the North defender is in the 2nd photo, yet the Ump is seen trying take Koster further toward the boundry - WAY off from being correct.

Yes he should but how many times have we seen opposition players wander around to improve the angle from a set shot with no correction from the umps. It's happened against us several times this year.
