Re: Recruiting
Lets hope we hear some positive news on recruiting after Wednesdays Pre season and rookie drafts.
Really want 3 quality players signatures given what we have lost

Re: Recruiting
We could lose a few players to the rookie draft I'm guessing perhaps to Crows and Power.
Could actually hurt us big time if they took a Tuck,Beech or Tippett plus a few juniors.
We really don't have the ability to lose too many.
The two new teams are really changing the boundaries of football as we know it.
There will be some good undrafted kids around but will they want to come and what is our ability to attract them after the current revelations?
Wednesday is shaping up as a really important moment for our club.

Like 'Brodlach' has said early I thought Tippett wasn't interested in the rookie draft

Re: Recruiting
Not sure about the Crows but Port are likely to have only two picks in the Rookie Draft. Kane Mitchell hasn't been promoted and they've cut Brent Renouf from the main list with an agreement to Rookie list him.
Not sure what the rules are but I thought if you nominated for the National Draft you were in for the Rookie as well.
All that being said I agree with captainblood, Wednesday is a big day for our season. I still believe this is the case, compensation for rookie drafted players is significant;y lower than national draft.

Re: Recruiting
Davis and Russell are staying in Melb.
Tippett looks like he is gone as well as he has nominated for the rookie draft which he didn't last yr
Boys we needs some good recruits?

Re: Recruiting
I have a strong feeling Tippett will be in SA in 2014 playing Full Back AGAINST WAFC for the crows - Well done NOT to those who voted in favour for the Crows and Power - working against our local clubs with much less resources

Re: Recruiting
That was a quick reply Scorpion - Do you work for the print media
Another thing that irks me is that you get bugger all $$$ for a rookie listing until the player is upgraded a year later (IF THEY ARE Upgraded)

Re: Recruiting
With Tippett now going we will now need to recruit 2 key defenders
Our recruiting team will need to recruit very well to cover our losses

Re: Recruiting
Tuck didn't get a second chance.....
We have really lost our backline Fergy, Tippett, Mangan...
As Lachlan said we need at least one ready made defender. Probably two and a forward.
Most clubs have been hit hard especially the Premiers which might bring them back to the rest of the field.
With a couple of good recruits I think we can look forward to 2014!!

Re: Recruiting
Here is another player we should look at
Guy Dickson (VIC – Fwd/Def)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 81kg, DOB: 12/01/1995
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style:
Player comparison: Jeremy Howe
Range: rookie - undrafted
Profile: Dickson is the high flying freak of this draft with a leap that can embarrass most ruckmen. He can really take over games when played forward and is one of the few guys in this draft where despite seeing a large sample of his games I’ve never once seen him play a poor game. Even in those star studded Carey Grammar teams last year where you’d go along to see Viney, Hrovat, Macrae, Jaksch, Haynes, Ashby and Moore last year he’s always that one you go home thinking “Who’s this guy?” And would always be in the best 2-3 on the ground every time. Dickson’s point of difference is his ability to take the flying mark in the air. In the air Dickson is in that same class as Jeremy Howe as a guy who can fly and take absolutely any mark in the air up forward and in his junior career he has taken some breathtaking hangers and taken a lot of marks inside the forward 50. He’s got for a medium size type among the strongest hands I’ve seen and is a major marking threat not only in the air but also 1v1 and in the contest taking some incredible contested marks. He just reads it so well in the air and understands the drop of the ball better than anyone else on the field in any given time. While having those aerial aspects to his game he’s also very sound at ground level and is very good below the knees. This year Dickson has featured in the back half for the Oakleigh Chargers where he’s played some very consistently strong football as a key defender due more than anything to need and he’s done a sensational job and has been an absolute rock in that back half staying with everyone for athleticism in the air, on the lead and at ground level. It probably wasn’t his natural game coming into the season as more that real high flying, marking forward who couldn’t be stopped in the air but he’s really bought in and played that Alan Toovey type shutdown role where he completely takes guys out of games winning every 1v1 and not letting his opponent get any touches or impact the game in any way. I project Dickson as a guy who could really be effective both up forward as that high flying Howe type or just as easily down back in a Toovey type role where he can play tall or small and just stop anyone and everyone regardless of size or style of game. Having played the season as a shutdown defender he’s one who seems to have really slipped through the cracks and gone unnoticed by many but he’s a beauty. Forward or back he’s a guy you can find a role for and rely on to do it well every week.

Even with the signing of Andrew Hayes the club definitely needs to fine another key defender

2 More Key defenders - We are relying on Hayes and Thompson and I cant see either of them beating Ainger or Wundke when we play the Eagles
