Re: Recruiting
So far we have a couple of good midfielders, a very classy bigman that can play numerous positions and a handy backman. Will be good to have Jimmy back and Fisher is a fantastic get. Add to that players such as Still and Nelson should get more opportunities with a change of coach this year.
I think Carter can develop into a key position back and with Harts back in defense we will be ok . Hopefully some of the young ones come on also. What else do we need.

One more key back (CHB / FB) and then we will have a very handy side

Re: Recruiting
I agree with 'Wolves' we need another KPP.
Wouldn't mind a ruckman either as we are thin in this area we only have Nelson,Webb and young Simister.
I think Webb needs to play as a key forward all year

Re: Recruiting
Agree, we need a CHB or FB. Harts will miss the first three games through his own stupidity & he is injury prone & always a good chance to get suspended again.
As Second Team said, the return of Jimmy hopefully fully fit & Ben Fisher will be a big boost & give us options.
I know you have been saying this for a long time Lachlan & you are so right, we need another ruckman as we need Webb to play more at FF or CHF.

Re: Recruiting
Following the deafening silence from the club following the expiry of our recruiting ban are we to assume that no more recruits have been secured for the upcoming season?
What with the embezzlement, our dire financial situation, the loss of so many key position players, and the controversial entry of the AFL reserves teams into the competition there must be many supporters who are waiting for some good news before renewing their membership for 2014.

Our recruiting has finished I believe. We have signed
1Hardy
2.Hayes
3.Newell
4.Stevens
5.Fisher
Our midfield depth has improved and Hardy is a good get. However certainly think we needed to sign another key position player and at least a developing ruckman

Re: Recruiting
That is crap considering the losses and not good enough for trying to get member to recommit after the ongoing mess that is Westies.
I think I may give the SANFL a miss in 2014 with the compromised comp and ongoing BS at West.
Considering Fisher is a returning player, we have recruited 4 players to replace Ferg, Tippet, Mangan, Slattery and IMO, none of them appear close to the level of players we have lost.

Re: Recruiting
Loopy I think you are being a bit tough. Hardy is a Ken Farmer medalist and Stevens has been touted as the best midfielder not on an AFL list. All SANFL clubs were chasing him and have been for a couple of seasons. IMO there didn't seem to be the same quality of former AFL players delisted as in previous seasons. If Carter can hold down fullback and no injury to Webb or Nelson I think we could be better than last season.
Don't forget Jimmy Ezard will be back also

Well said mate. I was also about to post that Ezard is a new recruit plus I think Favretto can play league as well and you would think there would be improvement in Kirk,Carter and Middleton

Re: Recruiting
Replacing Ferguson, Tippett and Mangan is not easy. Apart from Glenelg, I'm not sure that any other club has recruited all that much to replace their losses.
With VFL teams becoming standalone in some cases, the pool of players coming to SA has shrunk a lot this year.
One more key defender and a ruckman would have been good, though.

Re: Recruiting
I think we have recruited well considering our problems. Stevens is a good get and will slot straight in.
Ezard and Fisher will both be handy players back.
Not sure about Hayes, will the body stand up???
Same with Hardy.

Alex Scott showed good potential before injuries kept him out all last season. He has worked hard and relentlessly since surgery and recovery. He could possibly fill a defence role.

Good point, Audamus.
Alex shows huge potential, but he's had a terrible run with injury.

Re: Recruiting
Very pleased we have signed a ruckman. Bennett may not be a household name but he adds depth in an area we really needed to bolster. He will make both Webb and Nelson work harder. Lastly it will mean some of our young Key Position Players won't have to play in the ruck. Bennett is only around 23 and his best football is ahead of him

Re: Recruiting
Ben Fisher officially signed.
From the club website;
West Adelaide are proud to announce they have secured Ben Fisher back to City Mazda Stadium after the consistent defender spent last year playing in country Victoria.
Fisher, 28, will add considerable experience to the Bloods’ backline having chalked up 101 league matches before appearing for Walpeup Underbool in 2013.
‘’It is great having Ben back to help bolster our defence,’’ Football Services Manager Andrew Marks said of Fisher, 182cm and 75kg.
‘’His tackling and aggression around the ball will certainly be appreciated in season 2014. Ben is training really well and hasn’t missed a beat.’’
Former Glenelg ruckman Michael Bennett has also decided to have another crack at SANFL level after spending the past few years playing at country level.
‘’Michael certainly adds depth to our rucks and will certainly appreciate having Mark Mickan’s guidance as coach,’’ Marks said.
Magarey Medallist James Ezard, who has been burning up the track with some impressive time trials, has also extended his contract with the Bloods.
‘’After such an injury plagued season in 2013, Jimmy is looking for a change of fortune and is hopeful of producing another great year for the Bloods,’’ Marks said.
These additions come on the back of West securing former Brisbane Lion Richard Newell and former Central District pair Andrew Hayes and Justin Hardy before Christmas
