Re: West vs Port
A bloke should be happy when his team wins but, fair dinkum, this was like spending 2 hours in a dentist’s chair. Hundreds of people watched this scrappy contest.
Port Power Reserves fielded possibly their weakest side of the season yet they ran over Westies late in the game when we squandered a 58pt lead early in the last Q to win by 26pts. Percentage was important for us but we lost concentration and allowed PPR to kick the last 5 goals of the game. WA 12.15, PPR 9.7.
Middleton didn’t play and so we packed our forward line with options (rotating Webb, Green, Wilson, Burgess and Beech) and fortunately Jonno Beech stood up, taking ten marks and kicking 7.3. He was, essentially, the difference between the two teams in an uninspiring game of footy.
Once again we lost the midfield contests but PPR were so inexperienced that we were able to mount attacks from half back. Porplyzia was the field marshall down back. Agostino got plenty of the ball, burnt it at times but was still one of our best. Bates was able to open up the play with his pace and disposal and Hill and Stevens found plenty of the ball. Beech, with his 7 clearly BOG.
Still, we make far too many mistakes, turning the ball over and struggle for consistency across the whole game. Our last Q fade out was concerning and against most other sides in the comp we would have lost today. In one half of this game against a very inexperienced and injury weakened team we only managed to kick 3 goals. With the breeze in the first Q we only managed 1.5 and the whole first half saw some dreadful footy by both teams. Umpiring, all day, was terrible.
Ressies won 13.19 to 5.3. We sure need some goal-kicking practice.

Re: West vs Port
We won and Beech kicked 7 goals, there is nothing else to say, except
No.34 for Port played a fantastic game.

Re: West vs Port
I enjoy most of your write ups B&R but “really”, u r hard to please on this occasion. Have some empathy & understanding of what our players are going through.
I found the game reasonably entertaining in the second & third qtrs & our skills were pretty good, especially some of our quick play & foot passing. Most of Beechy’s marks & goals were from really good accurate kicks.
Although the last qtr was frustrating, in their defence our boys were very sore & fatigued after a 6 day turn around. A few went into the game with injuries in fact Kane Stevens could hardly walk on Wednesday night. Ando said he was so sore he might not have got up next week & was so thankful for the upcoming bye. Johnny Noble has been belted around for weeks & wasn’t up to his usual best & there are several others in the same boat. Hence perhaps the last qtr fade out although I know Gavin wasn’t happy with it.
We have won more games than the past 2 seasons put together with 2 games to go so I think we have made good progress this year.

Re: West vs Port
Fair comment , Mypaspective, but I would have thought our 3rd quarter, for a change, put paid to that idea. The first half was excruciating, so what happened at half-time for them to put the game away in the 3rd term, and what happened in the last quarter? (I realise it's the perennial question about application, but...…!)

4 goals into a force 10 gale in the second took hard ugly footy to achieve. It’s not always going to b pretty. That’s what I liked.
