Re: RIP
The club site has advised of Frank Leonard's passing. Frank started as a half-forward IIRC, before playing a lot of footy on a half-back flank under Fos. Tough player and good overhead. I think he also went on to have a pretty long and successful underage coaching career at Norwood. Always sad to see players you admired as a kid pass on.

Frank Leonard R.I.P
When I think Frank Leonard , I think of the 2 finals WA V WT in 1969
It was Frank Leonards first year of SANFL football
The first final was a drawn match
In the replayed semi final WA won by 21 points, in this match from memory, Frank Leonard played very well
A 100+ game footballer who went on to successfully coach Norwood under age teams
Franks under 19 teams won a few premierships
Frank also coached WWT reserves teams to success as well

Re: RIP
It is with sadness we advise the passing of Lyn Edward Humphrey (Joe), 8/2/1951 - 6/1/2021.
Known to all as Joe, he played as a Centre Half Forward in the U/19's and Reserves at Hawthorn from 1967 to 1969 before embarking on a career at Box Hill (VFA)
In 1974 he came to play at West Adelaide alongside his mate Bruce Stevenson.
Joe played at West Adelaide from 1974 to 1978 for a total of 38 games & 18 goals.
He has had a long battle with cancer and was 69.
We send our deepest sympathy to Jenny, Nick, Jess, Alex, Georgia, family and friends.
Vale Lyn Edward Humphey

Re: RIP
I'm not sure how many of Joe's 38 games would have been played with Bruce Stevenson and Ray Hayes in the side, but what a terrifying prospect those 3 would have presented for the opposition. He played all his footy for us under Fos and was very much in that old-fashioned Port Adelaide style - very physical.
I also have a vague memory of him making himself particularly unpopular with Glenelg fans during a Reserves game at the Bay. RIP Joe.

The son of George Oliver and Hazel Howard Weideman (née Start), and the younger brother of pharmacist/parliamentarian George "Graeme" Weideman,[1][2] he was born on 16 February 1936. Deceased 18/02/2021 Weideman's son Mark Weideman also played for West Adelaide (SANFL) and Collingwood; and his grandson, Sam Weideman, plays for Melbourne.[3]

Re: RIP
Very sad. I idolised Murray Weideman as a kid. He led us to the first final I saw us play, in 1968.
I will never forget being in the packed change rooms before games at Richmond and listening to him standing on a massage table, in his playing gear, exhorting the players. Such a commanding presence.

Re: RIP
In the VFL, he was a giant presence and did well when he came to West.
There are a few photos of him in 'Flags Spoons & Knives', including one similar to what you described, Aldo, addressing the players after a great win against Port.

Re: RIP
The 'Vale Murray Weideman' article on the club website is a very ordinary effort in my opinion. Weideman was a giant of the game who coached us for 4 years, worthy of a far more substantive piece than that cursory acknowledgment. It also beggars belief that we can't even get the facts right about our own coaches/players. He was playing coach in 1968 and '69, and non-playing coach in 1970 and '71, contrary to what the article says.
We are not covering ourselves in glory in this department of late.

I can't see anything on the website.
With so few left at the Club who know our history, we're really missing Mark Beswick.

Re: RIP
I think it's been changed but it's still not right, it's still got him as playing coach in '70 and '71, when he was non-playing coach.
