Under 18 MVP
SMITHSON WINS 2017 TORRENS UNI CUP MVP AWARD
SANFL would like to congratulate West Adelaide’s Josh Smithson for winning the 2017 Torrens University Cup MVP Award.
Averaging 24 disposals and two goals per game, Smithson is the first Bloods player
since Ryan Dijksman in 2012 to win the coveted trophy.
Originally from the Karoonda Football Club, the 18-year-old played a total of 14 U18 Torrens Uni Cup matches this year while also representing South Australia at the Under-18 AFL National Championships.
The goal kicking midfielder earned his Torrens Uni Cup MVP nomination after racking up 33 disposals, 10 clearances and three goals against Glenelg in Round 7.
Introduced in 2009, the MVP Award is presented to the best performing player in the Under-18 Torrens Uni Cup Competition.
One player is nominated for the Award each round throughout the home-and-away season, with the overall winner selected by a panel of judges chaired by SANFL Talent Manager Brenton Phillips.

Re: Under 18 MVP
Congrats to Josh on a very consistent season.
Hopefully a stepping stone to a long career with the bloods.
I lived in Karoonda for 12 years when I was a kid and it's great
to see a young lad from a very small country town doing so well.
