Essendon: take 3 players from West, (Agostino,Haysman,Stevens) do West get the go ahead to recruit 3 players, I would imagine they would be on Contracts. So where does that leave Westies with the Salary Cap
Why would we need a 'go ahead' from anyone? If there is space in the salary cap we can recruit. The problem would be that just about every player worthy of recruiting would have signed with other clubs by that point.

What are peoples thoughts.......
Will Essendon take any of our players??
It will be very hard to go back to back if we lose any more after what we lost in the draft.

Then PORT are allowed to recruit 2 players ( O'brien, Stubbs) Where in the HELL could you find
5 players to top up with, when I assume we would have targeted players who have been Recruited
Real issue i see with this if we recruit say 3 replacement player do the 3 into the afl return to us at the end or are they free to go where ever (no contract with westies) .
If they return to westies then we would be 3 players money over salary cap.
The issues are in the detqils imo grrrrrrrrrr

I think they will use top up players from Victoria, just a feeling I have nothing else.

Lots of talk about our new recruit O'Brien being a target.
He did play for Essendon's VFL side........

Think its a different O'Brien. The eagles have a ex bomber player named O'Brien. No one is going from West.

Well, it's started.
Apparently Essendon have contacted West about top up players.
No doubt it will be O'Brien.....

Words fold was on 5AA tonight.
He said that the top up players had to have recently been on an AFL list. Didn't say how recent. O'Brien was with Esssendon VFL side previously......

Re: Recruiting
I wasn't sure if they could also pick players who applied for AFL draft over the past 2 seasons -
Hope you are right with recent players and fingers crossed the player does not want to go to a team that will be smashed each week and then be one of the 12 discarded as a result at seasons end. Juniors who go as I see it are on a hiding to nothing - They go and if they don't do well in a weak team, they get discarded and then no other club will look at them either as a result. I accept that delisted players wanting a last chance have more incentive to go though.

It will be bad luck but I don't think we will get O'Brien now.

Re: Recruiting
I would think we get compensated BUT we need a player or two.
That's looking unlikely you would think.....
Very frustrating!!!!!!!

Re: Recruiting
Agreed - I fear we wont find a replacement this late in the piece - It was super hard recruiting this year as it was having to wait till after the drafts knowing what salary cap we had to work with.
Essendon should be forced to recruit from NT or locally - Its their fault they are in this mess yet everyone else has to pay for it.

Well..... At least they can only have one player.
Otherwise they would have raided us, no doubt!!!

*O'Brien
Settle down gentleman.
The Bombers may only select 1 player per State League Club, and unlimited from the Bombers VFL team.
So at worst we only lose 1.
I love this club as much as anyone and want to see us succeed, but you can not begrudge a young man their life long dream of playing in the AFL no matter the circumstances.
We could brag that we lost 7 players to the AFL in 1 off season. Adds to our profile on the National scale.

Re: Recruiting
Of course you wouldn't stop a player getting to the AFL..
BUT from a WAFC perspective if we lose another player that is 7 out and only 2 in........ The balance is way off........

Re: Recruiting
Don't always believe what you read in the papers, especially headlines.
CCrump, i think we haven't gone backwards at all. We could have done with another key defender, perhaps, but they're hard to recruit.
There will be plenty of competition for spots and this time last year nobody was talking premierships.

Re: Recruiting
Why would you want to go back to Essendon if you were a player who played for them and then
was traded or Delisted
Thats why players who are delisted and are young move to WACA and SANFL hoping they play well
and have a chance to be re drafted of course $$$$ have a bit to do with it

Re: Recruiting
$30,000 say at a SANFL club to maybe $150,000 at an AFL club would be a big reason and I cannot blame them.
Spoke to a Norwood player this morning and their club basically read them the riot act last night saying no one is to go or they are not welcome back. Not the exact words used but that's how the players took it.
Young Bollenhagen would played underage footy at Norwood is getting $800 a game at Wallaroo, no wonder our club struggles to get players if a player can get that money. Doesn't have to train there just turn up game day, spend the night and go early Sunday.

Lost a lot of players at the end of 2014. Yes brought in Porplyzia Helbig and Ryan Willets .
But off the top of my head we lost: Birss, Anderson, Still, Bricknell, Kirk, Durdin, Carter, Fisher,McCreadie, Thompson.
That is a lot of experience and quality out the door. Not many would have picked Snelling Haysman Agostino to step up like they did.
