Re: Recruiting
I do agree with ST and Lee that the quality of key position Players in the SANFL has declined over recent years.
I do think Hardy could hold down Full Back as he was a recruited by Centrals as a defender.
Klemke could also be a good key forward/Defender this year with another preseason under his belt.
The concern I have is the lack of depth with our key talls.
If we have any long term injuries to our key position players we
are in trouble
I don't believe Favretto is a key defender though.
I don't think you can replace a Player such as Jonno Beech and I'm sure the club was surprised he was rookied

Re: Recruiting
Favretto has size and is a great kick. Could be the perfect full back. Needs to get fit and work on his concentration during a match. He is the next Hommy or Ando.
And given the fact that we lost Ferg and won a grand final we can survive without Beechy in the team. West under Mickan is about the team and not star players.

Re: Recruiting
I guess time will tell if Favretto becomes a Full back
I believe the Key forward will play a big role in the SANFL next
year given the reduction in rotation to 55 per game.
As players become fatigued later in games they will kick
to contests. Webb,Middleton and Klemke will be very important
to us next year.
I hope Nelson is with us next year as well it would mean Webby could
spend more time as a key forward

Big money spent on defenders is a waste of time.
Norwood would be very happy with their recruits.
3 Premiership Players returning plus probably Johnston.
Eagles gain O'Brien without losing anyone of note.

Eagles have lost Rowntree for the year and Norwood are just cheats.

Re: Recruiting
Haha, yes I agree ST, not sure how they can fit them all in the cap.
They did lose a few but still looks dodgy to me.
Unfortunately, I think they will be hard to beat......

Most of them seem to either be returning home or have pre-existing links.
I'd also expect it is easier to find work in Perth than it is in Adelaide. WA is now the third largest state from an economic perspective, despite the downturn in mining.

Re: Recruiting
We have signed Zac O'Brien, a top midfielder from the Brisbane Lions.

O'Brien has an impressive record.
He played 8 AFL games last year and still won the Lions
B&F for their reserves

Top recruiting by the club again well done.
I find mypespectives comments on recruiting in another thread to acurately and clearly identify the problems that occur witin recruiting

Re: Recruiting
Well done on the signing of O'Brien. You can't have too many quality mids.
What's happening with Nelson.

That's great news. West just need a plan to make the most of his height and skills. His ruckwork and marking needs to improve and this will only happen if he has extra specialized training.

Re: Recruiting
Looks like we'll have an exceptional midfield. I am slightly worried though about what might happen if the ball ever goes into our defence.

Re: Recruiting
Will the Essendon bans have an impact on our team?
No doubt they will be looking for top up players to fill in for the 12 banned players.

It's a worry Wolf Pack..... but here's a question, for those AFL clubs like Port Adelaide who lose Ryder and Monfries, can they also use the top up player system?

Re: Recruiting
I would say there is a good chance we could loose a couple more now. Haysman, or either or both our new interstate recruits come to mind. The AFL has already allowed Essendon to top up its list,to save their comp from being too lopsided. What we need to convince them of if they are approached is that they are likely also being used and will be delisted soon as the banned players return. Unfortunately though money talks.

They should be forced to upgrade their rookies first and not top-up their rookies - Like everyone else, who knows what the AFL intends.

Re: Recruiting
Here's a Hypothetical
Essendon: take 3 players from West, (Agostino,Haysman,Stevens) do West get the go ahead to recruit 3 players, I would imagine they would be on Contracts. So where does that leave Westies with the Salary Cap
Then PORT are allowed to recruit 2 players ( O'brien, Stubbs) Where in the HELL could you find
5 players to top up with, when I assume we would have targeted players who have been Recruited

Re: Recruiting
Port can only upgrade rookies without replacing them but Essendon can do what they like
You'd think they will target those who have played AFL - Maybe Aiden Riley, Nic O'Brien etc...
I suspect delisted AFL players now with AFL, VFL, WAFL clubs will be priorities but who knows???
