SEASON 2016.
Random thoughts that relate to footy.
What do we need to win another premiership?
Who are we going to lose and do we need to replace like for like?
Are any players about to retire?
Have we got another lot of good kids coming through?

Re: SEASON 2016.
My best guess (and it's probably optimistic) is that we'll lose Francis, Bonner and Snelling in the draft. I don't think we'll have anyone else drafted.
Therefore we'd need to replace Snelling, who's had a fantastic year, with an inside mid.
I think we need another key defender as insurance for Harts who is not as spritely as he once was.
And I think a tall forward would be handy too.
That would be about the minimum, if we don't lose any others. Though it's always good to pick up a couple of utility types or mids as insurance, given we were blessed with few injuries at the important end of the season.

Re: SEASON 2016.
My Thoughts........
I think Snelling, Haysman, Agostino, Francis, Brind and Bonner will all be drafted.
I expect Tom Keough to be drafted too.
Kaine Stevens is also a chance and Beechy is good enough in my opinion.
If you look at Norwood, they won 3 in a row and had a lot of players drafted. That's the reality of being the Premiers.
I would think we need a key forward and defender and another midfielder as a start.

Re: SEASON 2016.
It's funny isn't it! We only won the whole thing a few days ago and already 2016 is being brought up.
That's footy though, if you don't plan and keep ahead there's only one way from the top.
I've expecting to lose at least 5-6 players mostly to the draft. These will be be the young kids who deservedly go on to an AFL career;good luck to them all.
I think we keep doing what we've done. Bring in the juniors to add enthusiasm and target a few key recruits.
Our recruiting staff need a special mention, Kane Stevens and Wasley- Black were inspired pick ups last year, and this year; they brought a toughness with them. Willo and Porps added the cream.
We'll know in the next few months who's going, I hope we don't lose too much depth. Trust the recruiters will get it right replacement wise.
The clubs on a great footing at the moment but we really need a period of sustained success now. Mark and his team have demonstrated they know what their doing... we are the bench mark now!

Re: SEASON 2016.
I would think we would lose Francis,Bonner and Snelling in the draft.
Haysman is a chance to be rookie listed
Keough a chance to drafted although I don't think he is a key defender in the AFL.
He's too small
I don't think we will lose anyone to retirement.
Think we need to recruit
1. A key Defender
2. A couple of outside Mids with pace and good foot skills
I don't think we need much more. I think Middleton and Watchman can develop
As key forwards however they need to have a good Pre-Season.
We were a much better side when Webby played.
At present I think he is our best ruckman and best Key forward

Re: SEASON 2016.
I think we will lose quite a few players, mainly to the AFL draft. Recruitment will be a problem because of our finances. The club may need help from the supporters again as was done with Brad Mangan. It have heard that a forum member has already made a generous pledge.

Re: SEASON 2016.
As i said in another thread:
The Club seems to have developed a winning culture, which is an amazing turnaround in 12 months.
This year seemed like there was much more of a professional focus - Obviously most people know about the strength and conditioning coach, however i remember early in the season seeing a snippet on Channel 7 news about Flinders Uni dietary/nutrition students working with the Bloods to help with their nutrition and eating.
Also only found out leading up to the grand final about the leadership group working with a special mentor/leadership expert.
Things like this are a great to see, as this is real dedication and i believe all these things have contributed to achieving this result this year.
The great thing about Semi Professional sport as opposed to professional sport, is there is definitely more opportunities and windows to get a jump on your opponents, whether it be in the sport science or nutrition, recovery, etc as opposed to professional sport where the difference in those areas is much more minute.
I've experienced this first hand in my chosen sport growing up, where i've seen the difference from dropping back from a professional level to a semi professional/local club level.
Anyway now is a real chance to build and capitalise on this winning culture, and begin to set some benchmarks.
Let's hope it inspires some of the u/18, reserve and fringe players to stick around, to want to work harder and improve and step up, and earn a sport, rather than jumping to other clubs chasing opportunities.

Re: SEASON 2016.
I was just thinking about our premiership win and realising just how important were three positional moves made by Mark Mickan.
After years at half-back, Shannon Green's move forward has been a huge plus, Josh Schiller moving from a wing to inside mid and Tom Keough's shift from CHF to full back have also both been big wins.
Any moves for other players and who should we look to of we lose a few on the draft.

Re: SEASON 2016.
I've posted it before but I still think Nelson's best chance of being a regular League player is if we can convert him into a full forward. It plays to his best assets which are he's very tall, he can mark and he can kick. It may not work out but rucking hasn't really worked for him after several years.

Re: SEASON 2016.
I think Aaron Anderson would be a very good player through
the midfield however he would need to complete a very good
pre-season.
Brind and Agostino are others who would benefit from
a big pre-season as I don't think either will get drafted
Jesse Watchman I think is a natural key forward and I hope
He has recovered from his shoulder operation.
I like Favretto however he needs to more when he doesn't have
the ball

Re: SEASON 2016.
After watching our finals series this year it is clear that with our new frantic attacking style that we now have a potent forwardline. With Fielkes, Greeny, Beechy, Webby, Middleton, Tucky, Stevens, Porps, Silverlock and a few others we should be looking to become a high scoring team. Our defense is very good and now we need to improve our quick ball movement. We also need to work on our ruckwork this year. We could become a dominant team for a number of years.

Re: SEASON 2016.
I'll feel more confident if we don't get smashed in the drafts. As it stands I think we need another tall defender, and if we lose Keough we'll need two of them.
I wonder if we'll see some clubs adopt a more attacking style given our success with it.

Re: SEASON 2016.
Facebook had a listing of players signed but no Beech, Milne or Silverlock. What's the deal with them?
Others yet to sign include
Hayes
Hardy
Nelson
Hill

Concerned about the numbers we may lose in the drafts.
Definitely need to sign a key defender.
A midfielder with pace would also be handy

Re: SEASON 2016.
Norwood has lost players each year and recruited well the next and we have to do the same.
Hardy could take a key back role easily and Favretto could slot in there also.
Brind could become a good forward and Fielkes or Greeny can improve again.
Haysman and Agostino could be huge for us in 2016.
Webby fully fit will be a bonus and Middleton has lots of improvement to come.
Hopefully some under 18s come up and we win another premiership.

I agree with you.
I do think however recruiting is the key which Norwood have been able to do.
I would like to think Stubbs will be a ready made replacement for Snelling.
You would like to think that. Haysman,Agostino,Anderson and Brind will all improve.
We do however need to recruit a couple of very good key position players one of which must be able to play either end of the ground.
We have lost arguably our best forward in Beech and our full back.
We have also lost an underrated player in Milne who was a very good swingman.

While recruiting good players is the goal Westies won the grand final by playing exciting and free flowing football. Team football is what will win us our next grand final.
