Season Ending 2013 Empty Season Ending 2013

Post by scorpion Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:07 pm

Well it's over
This is my opinion
I would like to thank A.Collins for getting us off of the bottom over the last 6 year's
and into the Finals over the past years it's a pity Westies couldn't take that extra stride.

At least he has set us up  to take that extra step, in the coming years.Hopefully the next coach can
do this by tweaking our system

Today's game proved an ATTACKING SYSTEM will beat a DEFENSIVE SYSTEM just look at yesterday's G/F

Ross Lyons has coached in  4  G/Finals and lost them all through his defensive tactics

Wish List
Another R/Man (get Willitts back)
Helbig,Davis,& Russell back from the AFL
Summerton from Pt Adelaide League Experience
Barns from Pt Adelaide up and coming R/Man Age 20... H.198cm.....W..95kg's..  ex Edwardstown

Well Season 2013 is finished, Thanks to all the Boys, Support Staff and supporters for a great Season. Highlight had to be going over to Melbourne stepping out on the MCG and also winning the Foxtel Cup

Scorps

Loved your summary. I agree about the defensive game was beaten by an offensive game

I like your wish list but I think we BADLY NEED
1. A key forward. May even need 2
2. An outside MID WHO IS QUICK AND CAN USE THE BALL
3. A running half back that can distribute the ball

WE lacked pace on a BIG oval such as AAMI.

THE BOARD NEED TO ALLOW THE NEW COACH A BUDGET TO RECRUIT

I think Collins has been a great coach and our list is still very young with only Fergy and Birss over 30
We lost 7 key players from last yrs list and still finished third.
We had no budget for recruiting this yr which impacted us greatly

We badly need to make sure that Fergy and Tippett stay for another year

Agree with everything you said, especially about keeping Fergy and Tippett but I would also add Tuck and Mangan if they are not picked up by an AFL club as mature age rookies.

Well thank God it's over. Good to bow out today rather than get smashed in another Grand Final.
Collo has done a good job to get us to the finals BUT the style of football we play is just wrong.
To see the entire 18 players in Norths forward line is amusing, I just don't get it.
Adam Hartlett in the ruck WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
Lewis Johnston left on his own to do as he pleases..........

I agree with your comments about Hartlett and Johnston.
Mind you we were beaten by a better side that has recruited very well

No doubt our recruiting ban hurt us. Brad Fisher and Willits were big losses.
I really thought we would have played two ruckman today. Thought they got that wrong.
Injuries really hurt us Fielke, Slattery, Ezard, and no doubt a few guys played who were really not right.
Also hard to compete against sides with AFL talent when we had ZILCH!!!!!
All that aside, our style of play is still poo!!!!!!!!!

Well done to the boys on a hard and long season of football.
The better team won on the day pure and simple.
Thanks Collo for all you did to lift us off the bottom of the table.
We really need to retain most of our players and pass on a competitive unit to the next coach whoever that maybe.

It's a curious season when you win only 6 of your last 15 games and still play off for a spot in the Grand Final. I suspect that taking the next step isn't going to be as simple as "tweaking" our game plan, but I hope we can keep our strong defensive elements while searching for some more strike power.

Sorry Aldo
if you were referring to my post when I said (hopefully the next coach will have us play ok by tweaking our System) I mean play with the same Intensity and have a normal Forward line Wink

No Scorps, not referring to you, it's a phrase I've heard mentioned a few times around the traps.
