Seems strange to have one less in the forwardline when you have the breeze at the start of the match.

I'd say you can blame the same coach who won the previous two games, if you need someone to blame.

Every West coach is a Clayton's coach to you, mate ;
The new coaches this year are:
Ben Warren - took over a top team, now 4th/5th.
Brad Gotch - being paid mega-dollars, great start, falling away.
Ken McGregor - out of the 5.
Nick Stevens - lots of recruits, bottom.
Who should have coached us then, Bundy?

Re: WEST V Sturt
I think that the coach needs to bite the bullet and make some big changes before the season is over.
I can't believe that we go defensive when we have the breeze.
I can't believe that we don't seem to have a plan when kicking out from goal.
I can't believe we are always out numbered in the forward line.
I can't believe that when under pressure we kick short.

ST, how much of last Saturday was due to the coach and how much due to the players?
How would you rate that for the previous two weeks?

Even though he had a defensive style i still would have gone like hell to keep Andy frustrating but to a point successful.

Re: WEST V Sturt
Hardy should be sent back to the reserves.
He has had 5 games in the league side and offered very little.
He had 2 kicks on Saturday, 2 against Norwood and 5 against North in the past month.
Bring in some younger players, we won't play finals anyway....

Bundy, you wanted Collins's head last year and now you wish he was still with us, the club is dammed if they do and dammed if they don,t. Who would you say should coach the club after just 13 weeks into this season ?

While the wins against Port and the Crows was good you have to admit Port had its worst side for the year in and the crows were not much better.
On Saturday I think that if slow ball movement and short kicks were a directive of the coach then he should be ashamed. I think it is more the players fault and nothing changes because we pick the same team. If the coach doesn't make changes and gets the same result he should be criticized.
Please explain the one behind the ball rule at west. That s*** should have been thrown out when Collins left. It didnt work then.
Some of what Rubbers has bought has been good but Saturday was pathetic and if nothing changes we will get smashed again next week. We do not have the players with the skill level to play possession football.
Sturt won by 20 goals last time.

Re: WEST V Sturt
The teams Port and Adelaide had were good teams. I don't think any coach tells thelayers to have slow ball movement. Against Port we had a record number of short kicks, but they hit a target.
I can't explain the 'one behind the ball rule' at West. I think that's a general type of play employed by many teams, especially by Norwood, winner of the last two premierships. I don't think there is such a rule at West, I think it changes depending on the game and the circumstances and is often a reaction to the opposition doing the same. In any event, I support whatever the coach does, whoever is coaching. Fair enough for you to disagree, no problem.
I agree with you about some of the players on Saturday, down on skill level and work rate. I wouldn't be dropping too many, though, just back them in to put a bad one behind them and do it better next Saturday.
I'm also not sure there are too many inthe Reserves banging the door down, although I'd certainly consider Favretto, Anderson x 2, Newell and Carter.

Colins tried for 6 years to play like Norwood and got nowhere near them. We don't have the skill level and we proved that many times. Bugger Norwood.
If you start a game against a team below you on the ladder and you have the wind in the first quarter and you put a player behind the ball. Well. You have just admitted defeat.
You listed 5 names from the reserves. There you go five changes.![]()

Re: WEST V Sturt
They were five players. They aren't five players yet banging the door down.
I do think a change or two is reasonable, though.
As for the first quarter, we played OK and won the quarter. I don't think the wind made that much difference all day.
I think work rate and poor skills had much more to do with the loss than playing a spare. We've won several games playing a spare.

Re: WEST V Sturt
It seems strange that each week the backline gets a free ride having an extra man or two the whole game but the forwardline has to compete against having one or two extra players each week. Maybe this is why we struggle to kick a high score each week and all of our failed forwards look so good in defense. The game is about kicking goals and not about backmen racking up stats.
The crowds obviously agree as they are staying away in their hundreds.
Time to change the way West thinks about winning a game of football. The future of the club depends on it.

Re: WEST V Sturt
ST, you were constantly critical of Andy Collin's methods, especially his defensive style and you criticised his use of the forwards, yet we finished top 3 the last two years,
Mark has coached 13 games and almost all of his key forwards have been unavailable most of the time.
Those that have played, with the exception of Still, haven't worried the scoreboard much.
Given we lost the best three defenders in SA this year and wondered who would play key defence, I think the defence has generally been pretty good.
Harts has been in very good form and Tom Keough has really stood up.
I think the problem isn't about playing a spare sometimes. It's more what is obvious to most - we need a key forward and a couple of quick midfielders.

I guess if the people in charge think that nothing is wrong nothing will change and we will get the same result. Hopefully not.
