We only had 46% possession, yet had 56 Inside 50s.

That's vastly better efficiency.

We also did well enough in clearances and had over 100 tackles, maybe for the first time ever?

Yes, much better. Interestingly, our kicks to handball ratio was 195 to 106. Although Glenelg had 49 more possessions, we used the ball by foot more. Let's hope this trend continues. Playing a longer game enabled us to move the ball quicker and as a result put the Bay defenders under real pressure.

102 tackles is a high number. Surprisingly, five players laid over half of them. Tommy had a quiet game, yet managed to lay 12 tackles. We also won contested marks for once.

What a pity we didn't begin better, and of course Glenelg's 100% scoring accuracy after quarter-time didn't help.

Two quarters of a straight running, long kicking game along with improved tackling against the “power” at Loxton and now 3 quarters against Glenelg. Signs of iimprovement ? We are so much better playing this style of footy than trying to emulate the AFL. Let’s hope others can see what is painfully obvious.

Coach's Report

Glenelg
95
15.5
West Adelaide

13.12
Full Time

I was very proud of the team to come back from 39 points down half way through the 2nd quarter but also mindful that we need to analyse why we were so far down before we responded so strongly. To me, its about what we can control around our method, effort and intensity, as well as communication and decision making. We will continue to go to work on that and educate our players, training them further in these areas. I also think the players lifted for our amazing skipper Tom Keough who played his 150th game. The boys were never going to give in out of respect for Tom. Let us also not underestimate his achievement in this current day. We salute you Tom.

When we do get it right we can match it with any team. To have 56 inside 50m is well above our season average. This was very pleasing and even more so when Jono Beech finished it off with four timely goals, turning back the clock. Pat Fairlie coming back into the side made an immediate impact around the ball with 14 contested possessions, 10 tackles and 5 clearances. Together with Hamish Hartlett [14 tackles & 4 clearances], Joel Stevens [16 CP, 9 clearances, 6 tackles], Lachie Squire [15 CP, 6 tackles and 3 clearances] they gave us our best chances for the year at clearance and getting the ball to our forwards. As a result we enjoyed our highest score for the year.

Special mention goes to Kaiden Brand who played a super game in defence -not only defending but taking intercept marks and launching our offence. Sam May did a great job on the dangerous Hosie along with Sinderberry on the equally dangerous Reynolds.

All in all a lot to like and another step forward for us this season. We now need to re-charge ourselves for a big assault for the remainder the season. Our first win is definitely within reach if we continue to improve and get our method stronger for longer.

Best: Kaiden Brand, Patrick Fairlie, Jono Beech, Hamish Hartlett, Joel Stevens, Sam May

Goals: Jono Beech (4), Hamish Ellem, Connor Fairlie (2), Jackson Edwards, Josh Gore, Tom Keough, Callum Park, Joel Stevens

Best written coaches report since Gotch has been coach.
It’s obvious someone else wrote the report given the previous ones
that appear on our website. It may have been Gotch.

It’s more professional and it’s about time.

Yes, definitely a more professional report and long overdue. Let's hope it continues. I agree, Lachlan, these reports have not been authored by the same person yet the club claims they have been. Why? We'll probably never know.

I think we'll all be interested to see if we continue with this more direct, longer-kicking style of play. Not only was it a more attractive style of football, but it also resulted in scoring more freely. (25 scoring shots) Had we been able to match Glenelg's scoring accuracy, we would have bolted in.

Our tackling was also a standout, maybe helped by the conditions, but still pleasing. Interestingly, the Eagles v South game on Sunday was played in appalling conditions. As a result, the combined tackle count was 331 (South 193 - Eagles 138) I wonder if this is a record.

Go Bloods.
